To be fair, now that the fandom calmed down, I doubt there’s going to be those obnoxious fans…. outside the US anyways. And in theatres that do air the movie.

Yeah, should be fine.

Assuming it does get a score and is reviewed in the first place, I… really dunno. It’s gonna get points for sure due to the animation style, but story- and writing- wise, critics will compare it to Disney’s and Dreamwork’s best, it… may hurt quite a bit.

I’m super hyped for this movie. I haven’t heard anything about the plot, I wonder what it’s going to be about.

No matter what score it gets, I’ll go see it anyways.

I don’t really put too much stock into scores about shows or movies i’m already interested in.

Same here. But I really want the score to be good for it’s sake.
For better or worse people take stock in RT these days and if they notice that the “pony show movie” is getting good reviews they might roll the dice and go see it, (it’s not like parents are going to take their kids to Blade Runner, at least the ones with sense) and be surprised.

It’s that effect that made Lego Movie such a hit.

I’m planning on going to the first showing of it!
I’m to hyped for it to register as bad. It’ll be amazing or I’ll be in denial and tell myself it was good.

I wrote this a month ago:

“It’ll probably be a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. Something like consensus: My Little Pony: The Movie certainly won’t leave the kids (and fans) hoarse, but non-fans will find this movie’s magic is just another trick in the book.”

Maybe 70% now. The movie so far seems to have a very straight-forward plot with every Big Damn Movie trope there is with an arguable Award Bait (not really but that won’t stop critics to accuse it of such) song also.

So… premier is tomorrow. Any bets on the RT score?
I say 80%.
Honestly, I just wish we could all get away from the idea that the Rotten Tomatoes score matters so much. So many people treat it as some kind of universally agreed upon assessment of quality, when all it really does is shoehorn complex, nuanced reviews into some kind of basic yes or no response. It’s a poor way to keep track of how a movie is really viewed, or whether there are things that might be worth seeing even in a “bad” movie.

Hear hear. You can count me in on that.

I find this weekend as a bad sign Lego Ninjago Movie a film that’s basically has the same goals or almost as MLP movie is coming in 2nd place to kingsman 2 in box office

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but again “reviews”. The score is the lowest a Lego movie has been, and based on a virtually unknown property that only children and die-hard fans of the show would know practically spells trouble.

That said, 2nd place isn’t bad and the fact it’s even there says a lot about the Lego brand of trust in general, which again was something earned by The Lego Movie actually being good.

It’s not infallible, but due to how hard it would be to “triage” who gets to be considered an “official” reviewer that impacts the score everyone sees, and the rest, which are user reviews, it’s pretty much the best there is.

Of course the EQD staff, the Horsenews staff and critics that review all movies will have different opinions, bias is unavoidable. In the end it all comes down to what the critic likes, so…. yeah. If you head to one of those sites you’re gonna hear an opinion that leans a particular way.

Review agglomeration means a biased source won’t matter. If a movie sucks, it’ll show eventually on RT. It’s weakness is that reviews aren’t updated, so good luck finding cult classics there.

So, not perfect… but what else is there? To go to X website and consider them to be a reference no matter what?

@fobone
review thing would make since if Kingsman 2 got better scores then Lego Ninjago movie but there more or less on par Rotten Tomatoes for example as of right now gave it a 51% while Lego Ninjago movie has at a %53 as of now
fobone

@Background Pony #108C
Because most of the people who would otherwise take their kids to go see Ninjago aren’t because they don’t want to waste their money, and going to the theater is expensive.

On the flipside the people who want to see Kingsman are adults with no child weighing them down, and it being the kind of movie that it is, the audience who wants to see it will regardless because cheese is what a movie like Kingsman lives and breathes everyone seeing it knows that.
