Can’t exactly blame the internet for people disliking something, especially this movie. All the points I made about it still stand.

None of those are remotely comparable.
 
SpongeBob is closer, but I don’t have a full picture of the state of the franchise or the movie’s performance to say anything about it.
 
I dropped SpongeBob around the time of the first movie.
 
What I heard from others in other sites painted a picture of the second movie not making as much profit as the first, though.

This. I enjoyed the movie a lot. The animation is great, but I still thought the film was flawed.
 
Objectively speaking, the pacing is off. IMO it starts very slow, and then rushed through a lot of interesting characters and places to reach the third act.
 
Speaking personally, I can’t stand how Twilight centric it is, and that my favourite mane 6 got shafted so hard.

I do not think not releasing in 3D hurt the movies chances at all given the general reception it got.

As I called it, depending on how you look at it it’s either a 10 minute movie stretched to 90 or a 90 minute movie that should’ve been 10.

Yeah. I’ve seen some people feel it was rushed at the start, trying to get to the new characters quickly.
 
Pacing is a highly subjective matter.
 
Overall, I think it was alright. I didn’t feel I was at the theater for longer than necessary, which is always good.
 
Personally, I would’ve icreased the running time to better use all the characters.

You know, the saddest part about the movie is IGN was stupid enough to score an actual pile of garbage* higher than it.

The problem is the MLP movie was an earnest attempt at storytelling and pathos by a team that actually was emotionally invested in their characters. The Emoji Movie was a soulless marketing product produced by a committee that wanted to make money for Sony.

Also thanks to the Emoji movie, Emojis in general are getting hated nowadays and less used than before. And I feel like the only one who likes it as much as I am the only one who does like the MLP movie.

Maybe we can discuss the good things about the movie instead? That might make us feel better.

THANK YOU! Sure people can have different opinions and that’s fine, even if it oppresses me for liking it since I just wanna make friends on the internet who like what I like. And I don’t wanna be selfish while not caring about people’s opinions.

Songbird Serenade didn’t get much characterization, but I did like what we got. She’s not the stereotypical stuck-up celebrity. She’s very causal, hands-on and down to earth. I get the sense that she’s accustomed to attention and knows how to deal with it, but it hasn’t gone to her head.

The movie’s pacing was generally okay, at least to me, but it did speed up from the initial opening song and act to meeting Capper and etc. I feel this was inevitable due to the general 90 minute length cap that all kids and family-oriented movies have. For what it was, it was a good, solid film with a good story, great animation, decent musical numbers, and fantastic new characters and designs. The Storm King was my only real issue with the film. He was a generic, power-hungry villain with no back story given at all, unlike with Tempest Shadow who we could actually sympathize with and understand her motivations and reasoning for them.

Maybe it was, or maybe they failed to come up with a good concept for him with the time they were alloted. I don’t know. But if it was an intentional contrast, I failed to see that as it went over my head and many other viewers’ as well.

Having flashbacks to Pat’s (from Super Best Friends Play) review of the movie. Man, I laughed heartly.

I dunno. I feel like there’s enough self-awareness there. It’s like you can’t really characterize these Evil Overlord types as anything other that egotistical sociopaths, so they just rolled with it. The idea that the same guy who forced the hippogriffs out of their homeland and enslaves ponies also sells bobbleheads of himself has too much comedic dissonance to not be intentional.

It’s very much intentional. They spoke about rewriting the character to be more comedic.

Only drawback I’ve seen of her is she’s an obvious Sia ponification. I don’t see that as a big deal anyways because this show has ponified celebrities before.
