One thing that the first animated series did really well was the juxtaposing of peaceful idealized ponies with seriously wicked villains that wanted to exploit or otherwise destroy them.
I really like g1 a lot! It pains me that there doesn’t seem to be be much art, or even official/ fanmade lore of the Takara ponies. They’re so cute! Really wish they had gotten comics, or a tv show, or even more backcard blurbs.
@mjangelvortex
I created a headcanon where they knew and were bff’s with g3 Kimono (because of the obvious). I would be over the flippin’ moon if a company like Bridge Direct decided to make them and bring them to the U.S. It being the 35th anniversary of g1 and all….
@Korora
well, the thing about Takara ponies were that they were poeable. They could stand and sit, and they had younger sisters (Lily and Popo) that were smaller and the fakies seem to more closely resemble them. This is an official Takara toy of Popo.
It’s Thanksgiving here in America. I’m thankful for having good friends, both online and in the real world. I thank all of you in this thread for sharing the magic of G1, and for being the kind, pony loving folk that you are.
ok then, I’ll get things started. I’ve been dying to ask what people’s views here are on the Takara lore? There’s scarcely any (but that doesn’t stop us from speculation and building upon what’s given, right?
according to the translations on the wiki http://www.mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Takara_Translations
, what is known is that they live in Pony Land, on Pony Hill, Pinky is precocious, Milky is a tomboy, and both love fashion.
I don’t know much about them. They appear to be bipedal, with opposable thumbs, in chibi art style. Very different from conventional G1 ponies, but not necessarily incompatible. I could imagine them as distant cousins of the Dream Valley ponies… Judging by images on the search engine, they are apparently quite fashionable, and give me the impression that they are more like the ponies from My Little Pony Tales, and could possibly use technology, like automobiles & telephones.
