So quick thoughts
|| Pretty good in English. First off this has a TON of sass in it, which is great. Like hands down, despite having the fewest lines outside of Fluttershy, Rarity was the best. She kept dropping the shade like a MOFO and it was glorious. The concept was really well executed as well, with Sunset being utterly bored with the time loop. And Sunset was really great here to, clearly being the emotional center and main character of the work. And Sci-Twi was rather nice here to, being just as cynical as Rarity. That’s another thing, the characters seem a lot more cynical and a bit more pessimistic and gives them a bit more edge. I also liked that Sunset just smashes the magic doodad instead of the usually Summon Rainbow Laser that they’ve been doing for a couple of specials
Pinkie Pie was…decent enough. Her ADD was a bit strong but really she’s more the sidekick here, the comedic relief to help alleviate the tension and being the reason for Sunset’s character growth in this special and she does it well enough. My issue is that they basically write out all the other cast members completely from this special due to that and I’m not the biggest fan of Pinkie Pie. I like her but this might have been a bit much of her with the rest of the cast playing to small a role.
The Dazzlings were a nice callback and the fact they said human for the first time is amazing to me, but outside finally figuring out where those three have been it’s not much more than a Red Herring.
And then finally the finale, it was rather anticlimactic. Since Sunset’s arc was completed about 30 minutes into this 44 minutes special this almost has the exact opposite problem Spring Breakdown had, where in that one the best part was the last 20 minutes compared to the first half, this one the first half is better executed than the last twenty minutes. The villains motivation is a perfect show and that’s really it, they’re vain and just happened to come across the one magic mcguffin just lying in a rock bed to do that and that’s it. Sunset doesn’t even meet up with them until the very end. And then she just give a speech and they’re convinced (not like they had a choice since it was after the thing was broken but still)
So overall I would say this was a great regular episode with a tacked on ending portion to pad it out to the required run time. Pretty good but I’d put it on par with the rest of the post Forgotten Friendship specials
Also that security guard is legitimately the best one in the MLP multiverse ||
