To be fair, I think Sunset Satan, was a corrupted version of Sunset’s dream to become an alicorn.
 
But as it’s suggested Sunset modeled herself on Celestia, up to extremely similar cutie marks:  

 
Sunburst has also a sun themed cutie mark, but it isn;t nearly as similar in design:  

 
And outright stated in the novel My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Sunset Shimmer’s Time to Shine (although I dout this is 100% canon), Sunset Satan would be possibly channeling Daybreaker - again, there some serious similarities between the two, most notably black sclera:  

 
But overally, Sunset just used her own magic, with the exceptions like Daydream Shimmer.

How? Time to Shine came out years before Daybreaker was a thing and I can’t recall any passage that even alludes to something like that.

I meant that it was outright stated in Sunset Shimmer’s Time to Shine that Sunset looked up to, and modeled herself on Celestia, with Sunset Shimmer’s Time to Shine explaining Sunset’s cutie mark being so similar to Celestia’s, is due to how much she wanted to be like Celestia.

Yup, Sunset and Celestia are quite similar personality-wise, even if it doesn’t seem that obvious on te first glance.

No wonder some people like the headcanon of Sunset being adopted by Celestia, specially since, by the time season 8 ends, if the Spike family turns out to be true, Sunset is the only main character in MLP G4 with no traces of any knd of family in canon, except for a quick debatably canon one-line in the holyday 2014 comic.

It’d be interesting if they did an episode exploring Sunset not having a family. They could pull a retcon of she’s secretly Princess Celestia’s Daughter. Or they could reveal she was an orphan like it was recently revealed Gallus was in FIM.
 
It would be nice to see her get closer to Principle Celestia though.

Supposedly Hasbro has been working on rough drafts of their product/media plans for the first half of the 2020’s and Equestria Girls is part of those plans. Not a reboot just as it is now. But again alot of things are still up in the air so probably be another year before we see anything more concrete for most of Hasbro’s properties.
 
What any version of Pony’s future might be should be more concrete by next fall.

Yup, it really works as a headcanon - especialy that even Celestia’s and Sunset’s interractions, were shown as kinda seemed (to me at least) like that of a mother and estranged/wayward daughter reuniting.
 
It’s also notable Sunset when she loses all of her memories since coming to the human world, she calls first to Princess Celestia.

It’s like if prior to Rainbow Rocks Sunset never had any meaningful connection with any other Equestrian (not counting the first movie, Twilight and Sunset disliked each other until the end of the final battle, developing their relationship in the second movie).

This is quite ppssible, seeing Sunset’s own words from the first movie, after her defeat - “I don’t know the first thing about friendship.”.
 
It’s quite possible Sunset was for some reason, antisocial - it might be due to the Intelligence Equals Isolation trope (which was even kinda the case for Twilight in the begining of the series)
 
Curiously, early series Twilight had some paralells to pre-redeemption Sunset, as she also was at the start not that good with inter-pony interractions, to the point she disregared Moonnsdancers birthday in the first episode, which was an isssue latter on.
 
I guess though Twilight’s interractions other ponies than Celestia, like with her parents, brother and Cadance, aside from with Celestia, and up to level with her class and Moondancer in particular, made her still more social than Sunset.
 
That, and Twilight isn’t as anger prone as Sunset which also made Sunset to hold a grudge against Celestia.
 
Of course though, there very possibly are still other factors, we don’t know about.
 
Another thing that comes with Sunset and Celestia having a daughter-mother relationship, is why Sunset wanted to much to an alicorn (as shown in the pre-quell comic), or at least havve the Element of Magic - she possibly saw it as her “birthright” in a fashion.

Well, I think Sunset has a more extraverted personality, but again, introversion-extraversion doesn’t equal social behavior overall. Sunset is more for getting things from the world rather than inner values overall.
 
Sunset does seems to handle interactions with other people when it comes to get things done, but usually suffered when it comes to close relationships. Keep in mind that after the movie stories shorts, in the digital series, she easily take leading roles in both the school play as the director and in Forgotten Friendship as the one who clearly takes the lead in the annuaries, so is not like she doesn’t have talent to deal with ponies-people, she just needed to learn how to keep people around like friends or family instead of typical business-command-or-acquaintance connections.
 
Twilight’s issues comes from the fact that she didn’t hold friendship very high, whereas Sunset only saw a tool to get things done. In the end both embraced that and become fairly more sociable and likeable.

It’s hardly similar.  
Rollercoaster of Friendship is miles better.

I still feel bad since Mirror Magic honestly should’ve been amazing. The main failure was that they pushed what should’ve been the main focus onto the side, making it criminally underdeveloped.

Mirror Magic was 22 minutes shorter than it should have been while Rollercoaster was 22 minutes longer than it should have been.
 
That’s the real tragedy right there I tell you what.

Thank you. I think that is an important contribution. Now I do not share all views, but I also think that Sunset Shimmer has more in common with Celestia than you might think at first glance. I think a bit that Sunset had a personality more like Celestia 1000 years ago. And I don’t even use comics as a basis. She definitely has a lot of potential. And therefore it is also an important part of EQG. :-)

I don’t even think it was a runtime issue; it’s just that they gave the bulk of the focus to the wrong things. The more engaging scenes go by too fast, while the less engaging scenes drag on.
