Look, I get it. I can understand your need to defend her. But stuff like this is exactly why I don’t think it’s in any way unreasonable for me to claim that she’s perfect. Her pool of abilities seems genuinely endless. Guitar, motocross, she is basically whatever the plot needs her to be, and normally without any explanation whatsoever as to why she can do the things she can do. Hell, she could have just as easily been an excellent dancer in Dance Magic, but that would have been inconvenient to the plot.
 
I simply have no earthly idea where her abilities begin and end, and I don’t believe anyone does, really. One of the upcoming shorts could show that she’s an expert gymnast and I swear I would still be the only one smiling to myself at how utterly humorous it is that the writers continue to excel at making her as perfect as perfect can be.

most of those skills have never factored into the plot so they don’t mean anything.

It’s okay for the Mane Six to be shown having interests or talents, but not Sunset or Starlight.
 
At least, that’s what I’ve learned from reading posts from those who are negative towards one of both of them.

But that was seriously nitpicky as fuck. I don’t understand, if you don’t like her why on Earth do you watch EQG and come here to complain? Block her tag or something, sheesh. I see you on her image in the comments too. I ignore characters I absolutely cannot stand.

And I just did something I hate…but when you’re complaining this much maybe it’s time to step back.

Every character on this show/EQG have multiple talents, or are at least proficient at multiple things.
 
 
Spinny, let me ask you something if you come back. Do you WANT to like Sunset but can’t find enough wrong with her? Is that why you do this to yourself? If all of a sudden multiple flaws popped up with Sunset would you stop saying she’s perfect? Because she’s not. She’s good at math, but SciTwi has her beat. She’s good at magic but both Starlight and Twilight outclass her (admittedly that’s her fault for dropping her studies but still). She can paint, but anyone can get that good with practice. Who knows, maybe this is an after school club she’s been going to for years. She struggles with being human and returning to her pony roots or maybe she doesn’t and that’s just wishful thinking..but she was hesitant going through the mirror. Everyone in the humane cast has a special power, so you can’t fault her for that either. There’s still a lot we don’t know about her either, like family, her actual job, and the biggest thing is her current relationship with Celestia. There’s still a lot to be explored with her.
 
I realize I’m being a bit of a hypocrite myself, but I’m just asking.

I logged out before this hit me, and I know I already made a long post above but here we go.
 
 
-I think what bothers me the most about Sunset not having a least a mention in FiM proper is that we’re supposed to believe that Celestia HAD no student before Twilight that showed that much promise. I get Twilight basically has plot armor a lot of the time because she’s the designated main character but come on! If it wasn’t Sunset it had to be someone else…but I want it to be Sunset because it being someone else makes things a little muddy, imo.
 
-I know someone (Meghan I think?) said something along the lines that EQG did happen but it doesn’t affect the show in any way? So it’s canon but not canon basically…which makes little sense but whatever. That leads me to believe that there are three “univereses” or continuities whatever you want to call them. EQG/FiM and FiM proper. The FiM I lumped with EQG is the one with the mirror and FiM proper is just the show as we know it.
 

 
….I’m just rambling and this probably makes no sense.

But in season 8 they introduce Midnight Glisten to FiM proper and she was Celestia’s true former student who turned evil because reasons.

I agree with that. Given the bizarre and confusing circumstances surrounding Sunset’s theft of the element of magic in EqG1, it’s easiest to assume that the Equestria from the EqG movies is not the same one from the show. Things evidently happened rather differently in Equestria in the FiM/EqG continuity.

Personally I like Sunset because she’s perfect. She’s cool, she’s someone to look up to, she’s someone you wish you knew. She doesn’t really need flaws.
 
I love Trixie and Starlight because they’re terrible at everything and it’s both funny to see them fail and inspiring to see them succeed, but I don’t need every character to be that way. Sunset is the escapist character who you wish you could be, and when she’s helping everyone and being kind, strong, brave and awesome, you feel like you can kinda put yourself in her shoes.
