The Equestria Girls General Thread

You know, I have to wonder: Why is the principal in Equestria Girls 3: Friendship Games named Abacus Cinch?
 
It’s obviously a reference to Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. But why? For one thing, Atticus was male, but he wasn’t a schoolteacher or affiliated with the school system in any way–he was a lawyer. And he also wasn’t an asshole like Cinch was.
 
I usually don’t mind literary references in movies, but with this one, I… just don’t get it.

Dammit, if you’re going to name a character after someone from one of my favorite novels, at least do it right! They could have even had a half-decent wordplay by naming her “Roberta Mule” after Robert Ewell from the same book.

All shippers will be salty about any implied ship with a main character. I got my preferences, but I can’t say that they don’t have chemistry.
 
And SciTwi is a human girl, she’s allowed to have a crush on a handsome dude that understands her.
 
Honestly, I even like Flash Sentry. He’s got little going on in the first two movies outside shiptease with Princess Twilight, but the dude’s just a cool, friendly nice guy. The scorn thrown his way is undeserved.

I honestly think Timber’s a bit of an idiot and that his relationship with Twi isn’t going anywhere, but that actually makes me like it more.
 
Twi’s just a sweet, innocent girl crushing on a nice guy she finds attractive without any pretensions of ‘true love’, and that’s kinda adorable you know?

My tinfoil hat theory is that one of the writers was so disturbed by Atticus Finch’s portrayal in Go Set a Watchman that they named the villain of the movie after him.
