As a German, who still experienced the separation of my homeland in East and West, I cannot understand the (for me) very irrational hatred of some people (especially many Americans, sorry that I have to say so) for communism.
M. A. Larson was certainly very aware at the time why he chose this Equality scenario, at least he makes fun of it himself (Bronies React), but I don’t think he was aware of the heavy impact it would make later.
Refusing Starlight forgiveness is and remains simply a disregard and a mistake about everything the show stands for. If you don’t like it (Equality Starlight), fine, I can live with that. But to deduce a direct hatred for the (reformed) character from it is such a pointless and nonsensical behavior that it makes anger grow in me. I’ve argued about this before. To put it harmlessly.

You may have noticed I agree, I was simply explaining where the divide originates. We Americans hate communism because… we were told to? Yeah it’s complicated and the American public school system is not afraid of indoctrination.

I don’t condemn Americans for their hatred of communism. It was a defensive reaction in the course of the Cold War. But we are now in 2019 and slowly certain behaviors are becoming… old. And predictable. Seriously, transatlantic relations couldn’t be worse at this moment. I have never seen a US ambassador about to be kicked out of my country. :-/
The problem is that only few non-Germans understand that as the country that was occupied by both sides after the Second World War, Germany now have a mediating role that we like very much. Germany has always been the middle power. Above us runs the axis east and west. As it should be. For we actually want nothing other than good (economic) relations. With the West (USA, France, UK) and the East (Russia, China, India).
Therefore I have no problem with Equality Starlight. For me she stands for East Germany. While as a West German I am actually on the side of a Reformed Starlight, I can neither change nor make amends for the past. I have to live with it. Too bad a lot of other “fans” can’t.
Edit: Of course one should not confuse the show with reality. But many others do, so I’m willing to get involved in their game. And I have my own opinion about that.

When I’m not being hunted by my demons, I’m actually quite a nice and reliable person. I love MLP and I’m sure it won’t change to G5 (although I’m a little nervous about it). I love this fandom (despite the many idiots, but you have them in every fandom). And I stand by my love and admiration for Starlight Glimmer. And Trixie. And the Royal Guard. ;-)
Edit: And even if it often goes down: I go an intensive hate love for my American/English brothers and sisters. Even though I often quarrel with them, I have a great understanding for their culture and view. I hope someday we’ll be friends again. After Trump. ;-)
