You’re ignoring tbe point that Twilight didn’t fail to do any of that, because her attempt was still in progress when Shining popped out and said lolno. Twilight got past the new defenses, and then Shining and Celestia came out and arbitrarily said she failed right then and there. None of the conditions involved her being undetected, so she was still in progress.
 
It’s no different than if Shining had declared that Twilight lost when he encountered her in the courtyard with the flower.
 
 
I don’t care about most minor plot holes, but I don’t forgive blatant character inconsistencies. This event derails Shining’s and Celestia’s personalities into being assholes for this one scene for some reason. I would have accepted Shining doing this alone if it was called out, but Celestia endorsing it pushes it over the edge.
 
It’s the same reason I hate or dislike episodes like Yakity-Sax (for making Pinkie value her instrument over all her friends), or No Second Prances (which turns Twilight into an jerk towards Celestia, and makes her overly controlling of Starlight).

I’ll give it a chance because “Twilight’s Seven” had a pretty bad synopsis, but I’m not exactly struggling to contain my enthusiasm.

Why are the writers wasting the final season with pointless filler episodes, instead of tying up the loose ends?

It’s not pointless filler, it’s a normal episode. “The Mean 6” was “pointless filler” by that standard, and that episode’s great.

It was indeed a pointless filler but I think the episode was just bad.

I remember on another site I go to, everyone was expecting this to be the episode where Big Mac proposes to Sugar Belle. The episode sounds fine, but given it’s the last season, a lot of people are expecting more

Like pretty Rainbow and ZephDash for instance, there is so much potential for hilarity there :D

Thank you. This is the final season. The writers should be going all out. Instead, S9 feels like any other season.

watch as the magical creature turns out to be the dragon balls that bring back the apple parents or something. XD

The vagueness of “a magical creature” made me think it’s something we’ve seen before, and that they want to be a surprise. And then, I had a horrid realization: Flutterbat. There’s a chance it’s Flutterbat. And as great as the call-back would be, something about that idea unsettles me.

I think it would come too close to fanservice. As much as we should get a clear say on if Fluttershy still transforms into bat or not, It would be really hard to make it feel like a “fresh idea”.
 
This whole synopsis sounds kinda like nothing. Not bad. Not good. Just a filler episode that shouldn’t take place in the last season.

I mean, this is probably the last sisters episode of the series, barring a Sweetie Belle/Rarity one in the late season, which seems unlikely. Given that, I’m sure the staff will make sure that we get an episode that neatly wraps up the relationships the CMC have with their sisters.

I think they should do that back in season 8. We have only 26 episodes in season 9 so spending them on relativly minor stories feels kinda like waste. Tough It would be fun to see episode where CMC find 3 more fillies to take thier place as new CMC.

I swear to god that this isn’t the only CMC/Sister episode, especially when they need to address the big elephant in the room that is Scootaloo’s family

We need to see ethier:  

There are no filler episodes per se, and a standalone episode can still be great. However, some episodes serve a greater purpose than others. “Going to Seed” doesn’t jump out at me, but there’s no reason it can’t tie up some loose ends.

Never judge a upcoming episode based on synopsis alone. There has been many times that the synopsis for a episode sounds boring but ends up being a great episode. Also great sounding episodes synopsis don’t always mean a great episode.
 
The Saddle Row Review’s synopsis wasn’t great and the preview released before the episode aired made it look like a rehash of a previous episode, but it became one of my favourite episodes in the show.

all I want is a final ep for starlight at some point.
 
I guess also a scoots ep and seeing some more Limestone.
 
I don’t really have a lot of stuff I’m especially eager to see.

It’s not a huge elephant in the room because it has been addressed- she’s got Rainbow Dash and the Crusaders, she’s fine. That said, I really do like Sweetie Belle (in case you couldn’t tell), I’d like for her to get an episode, preferably sans Rarity.
