Most of the newer episodes aren’t really getting any more fanart or discussion as of late…

because there are people who hated the final episode

Because the damn things were leaked like two months early; destroys the cadence for fanart (“Do I draw the thing now, but miss people that avoid spoilers, or when it airs, but too late for the spotlight, memes, and people that watched early? Eh, I’ll draw something else”) and splits discussion (people that watch early and get it out of their system, then people that watch on-time and feel everything’s already been discussed, with the two groups missing eachother’s discussions).
 
Leaks and thefts did this show and fandom far more harm than any episode or character or Hasbro decision ever did.

Yeah the early releases kind of let the air out of the finale if that makes sense.

Pretty much, it also ends up causing certain episodes to gain very little fan art too, especially when two episodes come out on the same time.

Normally, when an episode releases on time, the episode would, usually, get art a decent rate, but with the leaks, it destroyed that due to what The Smiling Pony said.

Yeah, no - I’d say it had the right to be actually good. Maybe even the responsibility.

Hmm… do season-release Netflix shows have similar issues? Because I recall some speculation on G5 going that way.

Yes. The fandom for shows like that basically gets one month of content and most of it is about the finale, then practically no activity except hardcore shippers or whatnot until the next year. Full season release would be very bad.

And there are characters whose potential to have more fanart got utterly destroyed as a result. Don’t make a Spur/Biscuit. Release episodes responsibly.

I don’t think I’ve seen any Bojack Horseman fanart anywhere, now that you mention it…
 
EDIT: To be fair, Spur at least got vectors. But the only reason the adult CMC seem to get art as frequently as Babs Seed is the Project Horizons Effect. And Biscuit is as dead in the fandom as Puppysmiles is in-universe. After Chapter 21. Better bring in Threnody to help them deal with it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a game-crashing headcrab zombie to investigate.

would a Steven Universe Future type series would have worked for MLP FIM?

Yes. It’s not what the fans wanted, I know! But judging by the only promotional image that actually seems to be a screenshot of an episode, it doesn’t seem as idiotic as the commercial… Although the Mane 6 were singing and dancing to the tune of a catchy song there, so it’s a little justifiable.

I still think Pony Life happened because the TTG movie was better than the MLP Movie…

Tbh, I think Pony Life happened to avoid having a hiatus between the end of FiM and the G5 movie… And also because most current cartoons last 11 minutes by episode and making a new series would be easier than drastically changing an already airing one.
