Season 7 Episode Discussion [Speculation, Discussion, Spoilers] (SPOILER YOUR LEAKS)

Perhaps not, Torch said he couldn’t even remember the last time they held the competition. Surely there would be dragons younger than Torch when he one but older than all the dragons we saw at the competition assuming Torch is over half a millennium years old and he won when he was less than 100.
 
And eh, they could just did out a bigger competition site. Like an underground Thunderdome or something.
 
Semantics aside it just doesn’t feel right to have Ember,Thorax or even the other Rulers together when how they came into power is so vastly different. Like if things where different, what if Dragons where sick of Torch and wanted to revolt like changelings, but couldn’t?

There not enough information on dragon culture to really get a definite answer
 
But it seems that dragons live in a dominant type society living and traveling in groups or most others just live in isolation alone. My guess is that either the the bigger dragons are somewhat passive to small young leaders to see how they grow and if they’re fit to actually lead them. If that’s not the case they will most likely not listen and leave on their own accord. It’s not like dragons do much outside of sleeping and getting stuff to either hoard, fight, blow up.

Torch could’ve squashed all of em. Seriously, why was he so big…and he has such a tiny daughter.

Dragons grow larger along with their greed, we were shown that in “Secret of your Excess”, very successful, powerful dragons therefore grow to very large sizes, mostly sit on their hoards, live alone because they don’t trust anyone else, sleep for very long periods and don’t really care about the rest of the world.
 
Less dominant dragons on the other hand have to cluster together for safety, and if you’re clustered together, you need someone in charge. I’d say it’s likely that very successful leaders eventually grow to large size themselves and give up their position (like Torch), giving another beta dragon a chance at the same success.
 
I wonder if some of the other large dragons we’ve seen weren’t also Dragon Lords at some point.

I don’t get his size either. He didn’t give off that rank to me. I felt the red dragon from Dragonshy gave off more of an intimidating vibe despite how juvenile it seemed.

Lyra got a speaking line or two, so it’s not entirely a wasted episode.

Dragons can grow larger with greed and hoarding but we’ve never seen them do this or even reference it in a social aspect. For all we know it’s something all dragons have trained themselves against, and avoid it on purpose. After all it’s pretty contradicting of what we see during the Dragon Migration, tons of dragons of all sizes interacting and relaxing around each other with no personal hoards in sight.

Even there, the larger dragons were still pretty much keeping to themselves, and I should note also that ponies know very little about what the dragon migration really is. I personally think it was a combination of a breeding meet, a Thing and a general get together. Unfortunately we end up only really seeing it from the perspective of Garble, who’s not nearly important enough to be involved.

Just saw the episode. The sum of its parts are better than the actual episode I’d say. Spike was unfortunately a low point, but the reason why I wanted to see the episode in the first place was excellent. Ember especially knocked it out of the park.

I cant take the map seriously anymore. The next will be Angel Bunny and I wouldnt be surprised.

You’re moaning because SPIKE is important enough for the map to acknowledge? Oh, he’s only the second major character we ever met, and was actually THERE when the Cutie Map was created…
 
…and then you compared him to Angel Bunny.  

I thought people WANTED the map to call people like spike? So that Starlight wasn’t the only special case.

I will note that all those called had a magical connection to the map. The main six created it, and Spike and Starlight used it to travel through time.

I wonder how many wrenches will be thrown in people’s thoughts when it calls Trixie.

By Season 15 it’ll have called every pony of note except Babs Seed, who will still have had her last cameo in Forever Filly and her last “speaking” role in Friends Forever #37.

There’s no in-universe evidence that only certain ponies can be called by the map. We know this because Twilight Sparkle herself believes that anyone can be called (see Hoofields and McColts).

I’ll have no problem cancelling that theory when it does call someone not connected to the map (I have a feeling it might call Trixie for “To Change a Changeling”) but for now, it seems fairly solid. Every single individual chosen has been magically bound to the map in some way.
 
(This also means Discord and the other token givers would also count)

What do you think are the odds of an episode of Spike hanging out with Thorax and/or Ember next season?

I know many don’t wanna believe it, but since the latest meta episode we know the writers are aware of many fandom stuff and Seth seems to be on their good side.

Or Trixie is an amazing character with loads of fans, and one of them happening to be prominent was always going to be a safe bet.
