I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: there is a difference between “expecting a kid’s show to be good” and “expecting a kid’s show to be something it’s not.”
I’m not expecting it to be something it’s not, I’d just like there to be less glaring flaws in the writing.
And it’s frankly insulting to insinuate that the staff “doesn’t care” when they point out who the target audience is.
When people say that, they’re referring to things like Jim dismissing criticism with “it’s a little girl show”.
Defending bad writing with “it’s a little girl show” is the very thing that Faust wanted to get away from when creating G4: This idea that just because it’s a show for kids, means that it’s okay to have bad writing.
You can have a childrens’ show with good writing. Shows like Yo Gabba Gabba, Sesame Street and FIM’s earlier seasons prove that. Just because it is a “little girl show” doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t criticize the writing.
I mean, look at other “girl shows” like Barbie, Monster High, etc…..they’re direct-to-DVD garbage because minimal effort is put into them because “oh it’s just a girl show, we don’t have to try!”
I don’t want FIM to share that same fate.
