That wings line also didn’t really make much sense since they were all reading events that takes place past season 3, after Twilight became a princess.

I assumed the Friendship Journal was continued past Season 3, that it was pretty much a record of the Mane Six throughout all seasons of the show or at least up to the late two seasons.

It kinda had to be, since the thing that triggers Twi to even look for it is a line she said in season 2. So i think we can assume the journal must have entries on all the letters Twi has given to Celestia too.

So, Spike wasn’t in yesterday’s episode, even though he would have been perfect in it, and he won’t be in To Change a Changeling, even though he’s Thorax’s friend.
 
What happened? Why is Spike back to being an afterthought after Season 6?

Same here. It kinda reminded me of this little seen fromm all the way back in season one.  

I think it’d be a nice role reversal if Twilight/Starlight were the voices of reason in Triple Threat while Spike was the one worrying.

Starlight being the voice of reason worked out just fine because she was the only one who didn’t write in the Journal.

I think its because there aren’t enough roles to play and there are too many characters. My theory is Starlight wasn’t supposed to originally be in this episode. Instead, it was a role that Spike should have been playing in. Someone stated there was a scene where Starlight chose to stay with Rarity when Twilight had to leave. That’s something Spike would do. Also, the lines and way how Starlight tried to give Twilight peace of mind worrying about the journal, it sounded a lot like what Spike would say to Twilight worrying too much.
 
I also share the same sentiment about the Thorax and Spike connection. Thorax made his debut as “Spike’s high risk friend” but it seems like DHX is giving that role more to Starlight because, y’know, she needs something to do.

Honestly, other then the thing with Rarity, I think the view of how Spike could of fit in just as well as Starlight is based more or how it really doesn’t make her do anything someone else could do.  
Because they keep pointing out the thing about Rarity like it’s the only one she stepped in on, she helped Shy too damn it, so it’s more saying how they think it was meant to be Spike because of one thing.

Here I could see that Starlight is protective of her friends, likely as a sign of respect after what she did in the past

DHX has nothing to do with the show scripts. Hasbro hires and manages the writers, DHX animates the show based on what they’re given.

I kinda hope threatening people doesn’t become a regular thing for her.
 
There have been and will continue to be many times that’s an appropriate response, but this wasn’t it.

But Spike is back to being irrelevant after a great Season 6.
