Season 6 Episode Discussion [Speculation/Theories/Beware of Spoilers]

I think that with the fact that their cutie marks disappeared he was taking something far more important than just a bit of energy, it seems like it would be more accurate to say he is taking the battery itself rather than just a small portion of its output. That is also what I believe the alicorns gave Twilight, not just magic but also the “core” that allows magic to be generated.

What I think Starlight needs is for magic to be performed on her. What if Twilight perhaps, used her cutie mark replacement spell on her? How would she react? Or worse, say it was Tirek in the season finale who drained her magic. Would she break down and say she’s useless without her magic? But then her new frrrriiieeennndssss save her and she gets her… own… spark…?
 
Actually I don’t wanna think about that for now.
 
But basically she needs to be humbled in some way. Twilight is the probably only reason this mare hasn’t used her repertoire of new spells and training to start a different dystopia somewhere else instead. The dependence on one character to be the one holding you back is never a good sign; just look at Discord.
 
While I don’t think she will betray the mane six, or at least Twilight (and by extension the mane five) it isn’t healthy to depend on one character for morality.
 
Of course, the show probably, as usual, won’t ever explore these hidden underlying problems Starlight has (same for all the other characters) and instead pretend everything is all good and concrete.

SO I saw Luffyiscool’s blind reaction to this episode. I found it really interesting.
 
Not only did he personally really sympathize with Starlight’s reactions, he actually was scared Twilight would get angry at her, and was visibly elated and relieved when she wasn’t! I’ve never seen a reaction like that before.

I mean what was one of the main tag lines to Starlight this season?:
 
Starlight Glimmer: Not really stuff I’m super eager to tell Sunburst about. I mean, he’s probably some big important wizard now, and… I can’t even find my way around Twilight’s castle.  
Previously she was gunhoe and sure; in spite of her methods she with vigor in her heart did what she did in name of some sort of justice, a personal vendetta turned altruistic goal, but now she has none of that and is basically working from the ground up. No more running away when someone comes to impede her, no relying on personal vendetta or misguided form justice, etc and now she’s her. In respect for Twilight’s overbearing willingness to teach her and so she still presses on.

Maybe one of the premiere or finale villains would pull it on her. Okay, that and maybe at least half of the mane six, but still. It maybe won’t have a focus, but you can’t argue it’s rather ironic.

She has, but only that she has somepony who at least is in her league in Twilight. Otherwise, she seems to subtly believe that her skill/power in magic lets her have her way, even if her intentions are better than before. She’s slowly starting to get that there’s more to her life than just magic.

I used to be bitter about a few things about her, but I’ve mostly come to terms about that, even if there’s one specific reason why.

What bothers me more is the people who are downright bloodthirsty about wanting Starlight to be “punished.” I’ve seen people talk about wanting to outright cut off her horn or kill her in as gruesome a manner as possible. I can only imagine the kind of “revenge art” she gets… I’ve already seen “revenge fanfics” against her…

She is getting off pretty consistently easy, and not everyone can take that so well.

While true, there’s a difference between desiring a character to receive a relatively just punishment. And desiring to torture/mutilate them, leaving them a broken husk of a mare that resembles naught but a red mushy pile of suffering~

A bit soft-handed, imo, based on some folks like that one background pony that keeps posting SG gore and insults others that try to debate him on anything as he believes he’s right and anything not inline with that is wrong and if you call him out on he just comes back with some depressive mess as response like a bitch.  
As someone who like Star, I have to also point out the folks who love Star, not like love Star, as a simple backlash to folks who don’t; both the overzealous types like that background pony and fair folks like you, Ponypon.
 
Call out both, like Ellen Degeneres’s clitoris I’m not playing with those dicks.

Remember in Equestria Games (I think that’s what the episode was called) where they prevented unicorns who weren’t participating from using magic? Yeah, they should use the same spell on Starlight.

Luna could go bad again, Discord could stop fooling around (again) , Chrysalis will keep coming back until she’s dead (or fed) Tirek will one day get loose.
 
Though they all get a pass cos Woona,John De Lancie and peeps wanting to bang Chrysalis. XD

Chrys and her entire race are the ones most in need of diplomacy lessonsif not for peace than at least for survival, maybe Spike should make that his aim, he’s really good at it by now.

Forgot to mention it’s also a running theme of forgiveness . Luna eternal night tantrum,Discord betraying them and Shimmer going bat shit insane were forgiven pretty easily. I believe peeps think Starlight hasn’t ‘earned’ her forgiveness. Maybe we’ll see if she does but I’m sure ranting ‘kill her’ is totally reasonable XP

Then again I do believe that’s a simple matter of different themeing with each.  
Sunset’s been “fuck the past” since RR, but Starlight’s thing has been the snowballing of the past in the avalanche of today.

It’s not even like Starlight wasn’t willing to accept a punishment after stopping at the end of Season 5. In that situation, them offering her friendship might actually be MORE effective, since she would see them as really REALLY giving her a chance. Hell, you could say she was so worried about letting people down that it led to the events of the latest episode.
 
People seem to think that not being punished will always lead to the person feeling like they can get away with everything and being malicious, and not that they could end up feeling indebted to the person who forgave them, for giving them such a chance even when they feel they don’t deserve it. This is especially noteworthy for Star as she’d spent the entire season considering Twi and her ilk as a force for evil.

Well, if you look at how much she does for them, she can’t feel too indebted.
 
And looking at what she gets away with and somehow thinks is okay, even in full knowledge of what she did wrong before…….
 
The internal recognition that you deserve whatever punishment you get is useless if that punishment never comes, no matter what you do. It becomes a feeling you can throw away without consequence.

I still say that having to live with the fact that she almost destroyed Equestria IS Starlight’s punishment. I can only imagine what kinds of nightmares she has…

She hasn’t done anything because she’s scared stiff of messing up. She knows the single thing she’s good at and has been focusing almost all her energies to just that. Trying to impress Twilight with magic.
 
When she brainwashed the mane 6, she wasn’t even thinking about it like that. She was flustered and trying to use magic in the heat of the moment to make things go smoother. When Twilight lays out exactly what she did in other words, Starlight’s reaction was: “When you say it like that… it does sound pretty bad” in a real sheepish voice. Like many other things that episode, she’d missed the point.
 
So to me the question is, “Has she learned from this?” Which we’ll have to wait and see.
