I’m not very fond of pop music myself, but that didn’t make the episode any less great.
 
 
To be honest, I have a feeling the ratings for this week’s finale will be low as well, at least compared to other finales, considering the holiday and a certain dinosaur movie.

I also don’t really like modern pop music, but skipping over an episode only because of pop music sounds like a dickish move.

Especially when said pop music only shows up in one scene intended as a “take-that” to the phoniness of modern music that overuses autotune and whatnot.

The pop song was a minute long, full of autotune, special effects, and smoke and mirrors to emphasize the fact that this isn’t Coloratura’s talent. All the spectacle about it is done to show that the amazing flashy stuff isn’t Coloratura’s doing, but Svengallop’s. We had her sing a song before in a flashback to show how she had raw talent, and it clearly contrasts what we see in the next song.
 
It’s to show Applejack, and by extension, us, that this isn’t the real Coloratura.

I, for one, find it hilarious and amazing that there’s an autotune spell

Can you imagine someone which special talent is autotuning? Can’t cast any other kind of spell, and was born before the rise of it’s popularity.
