Afterone weekthree full days of submissions, we’ll hold polls to narrow down the list of suggestions to a “final four”. Depending on the amount of submissions, there may be a second round of voting - it all depends on how much participation there is.When the final candidates are determined, we’ll hold one last poll for each character to determine the top two names. Included in each final poll will be an option to remain unnamed. The #1 vote-earner will be the primary tag, and the runner-up and current tag will both become aliases of the winning name. That means you won’t have to change any filters or watch lists for these characters - the old tags will still work the same. If remain unnamed wins, that character’s current tag will remain the primary tag, and the runner-up will be made an alias of it.

I guess it partly depends on how close the votes are as to whether you should do another round or not. If a ton of people just pick one name and the others barely have any people, there wouldn’t be a point in having another round of that character if it’s obvious it’s going to be the same name.

When the polls were first set up, we didn’t have a clear idea on how many submissions would be made and (at the time) the site limited polls to 10 entries. With the number of entries upped to 20 per poll, multiple rounds are no longer necessary, so a few changes are going to be made from what was announced in the initial post.
- This is the final poll for all 4 characters. The polls are still multiple choice, so you can and should vote for all the entries you like.
- The #1 vote-earner will become the primary tag for the character.
- The #2 vote-earner will become an alias of the primary tag.
- All existing tags will become aliases of the new primary tag. This means that (for example) even if two brand-new names win for Trixie’s Mom, the Dandy Lion and Trixie’s Mom tags will still remain aliases.
- For the Shy parents, in the interest of keeping parity between the name tags, Mr. Shy and Mrs. Shy will only remain the primary tags if both those options win their respective polls. It would be odd for one parent to have a fan name as their primary tag and the other to go without one.
All four polls will run for 7 days. Ballot order is randomized. Once again, votes will be monitored for sockpuppet voting and moderation will be applied as needed.

I was about to object to that being the final round for all votes but then I remembered that you can vote for as many options as you like.
Still, with each option giving like 16 choices I think the top 5 chosen should go to a final final round where you can only vote on one.

Maybe add a link to the characters’ tags and/or a picture of them under each poll? Feels kinda weird having to manually search for them if you just want to look at them again before voting.

This time around I voted for so few. Most of the good names have gone. It’s sad that after all this effort with so many good names, we’re certain to end up back where we started. People have chosen the familiar over the clever.
And no I’m not saying that because all of my suggestions were voted out. But it might be partly that I brought up the Lulamoon name and then people started tacking that onto suggestions, despite her being the least moony pony. It leaves me actually feeling responsible for some of these duds. Sunny Lulamoon like come on, no. There was a chance to be creative!

Yeah, I agree as well, I mean, I came up with Autumn Beauty, which was fairly clever, yet hardly any voted for it, but Dandy Lion somehow got voted a lot despite being a very lazy name for her.
Plus, the better names in those polls just got flat out ignored, which doesn’t help things either.

the problem with this many options is one may get the most votes, but that’s like less than 1/10th of everyone who voted that likes the highest scoring name, therefore it’s still a minority.. basically, there are no winners in this war.
