Well, female yak names obviously all seem to start with y. Yona, Yigrid, Yojan, etc. Male yak names seem to have a tendency to be a mixture of British, Irish, Scottish. Everything that she sounds a little Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Norwegian and Flemish, would be legitimate too, because in the course of the settlement of Britain they had a great influence on the naming.
My favorite example is the Bayeux Tapestry. Of course everyone knows the names William (the Conqueror) and his brothers Robert and brother Odo. But when you look at the carpet, you read the following names: Willelm, Rotbert and well, Odo. These are Norman variations of the German names Wilhelm (like the famous German emperor), Rotbart (Red Beard) and Otto (also the name of an emperor).
My point is that people back then did not use the English names that are so well known today. Therefore I would rather use the original forms of their names for yaks as well.
For example: Harry (known) Heinrich (origin) -> Heimrich/Hinrich/Henric/Henrik
Sorry, I couldn’t think of a better example. But I think I could make myself clear. I don’t have concrete suggestions for a yak name, but I like
Rotbert/Rotbart because it fits with the fur of the yaks. ;-)
