Naming Background Ponies Thread!

I found a great name for the unshaven Daring Do fan in Stranger than Fanfiction, and here’s why I think it is too perfect to pass up:

That is perfect and I love it. I can easily picture him as the guy who keeps his rare Tales of Daring #39 (the first appearance of Daring Do) in triple sealed mylar.

My suggestion: Ocean Spray.

Ocean Spray is kind of a fun name, although it always makes me think of cranberry juice. Although that still kind of works, given her coloring. I kind of wish we could see her mark just for something else to go on.
 
So yeah, I guess I’d be ok with Ocean Spray, if anyone else wants to chime in support.

Heh, that was sorta the idea. Her mane/tail colours are reminiscent of actual seafoam, and her bodily fur is like the cranberry juice. I thought it was a cute connection, especially since we don’t have a cutie mark to go off of.

You know, now that you mention it, that is a pretty neat connection. Plus you have at least two people on board with it, so I’d say go right ahead and make it official.
 
Also, kind of a funny side note, it occurred to me that “Ocean Spray” rhymes with “cosplay”, which is what she’s kind of doing here (with the fake wings and all).

I kind of wish I knew if the one at the top in costume was a colt or filly, because the name Lionel keeps coming to mind.

That is a filly, actually. unless you mean you wish she were a colt instead. However, Lionel can work for both.

Any suggestions out there? I thought maybe Lucky Star for the backwards hat one, since his cutie mark is a right side up horseshoe next to a star (I know, very original). The others I don’t really have a good suggestion for.
 
I do have a bad one for the one in a beanie hat. I want to call him Rodger Hammerstein because his cutie mark appears to be a crown over an eye.
 
Get it? Because royalty, and an eye. Which makes me think of The King and I, a musical put together by composer Richard Rodgers and dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II.

Maybe we should come up with some puns based on boy band members. Example: Hairy Styles, after one direction member. Maybe yall can do better. Haha name one Prance Bass

I could get behind boy band names. Prance Bass has an amusing ring to it. Although that might also be the only one that really works well for adaptation.

 
The violet unicorn besides Cheerilee with the three stars as CM, my idea for her is Cassiopeia. This is a name for a star constellation on the northern sky.

I could get behind Cassiopeia. Granted she has the wrong number of stars for it, but if we wanted that level of accuracy we’d probably end up naming her “Orion’s Belt” or “Summer Triangle”.

Yes, that with the numbers of stars is right. There are two more in Cassiopeia. Then I am for “Summer Triangle” or “Winter Triangle”. Or maybe we found something others with stars or space. Hmm, Alpha Centauri has also three stars. But is this name good for a pony? Is there a pony who is called “Sky Search”?

No Sky Searches that I could find. Kind of odd considering there are some ponies with telescope cutie marks. Sky Search would probably be a great name for one of them.
 
For the three starred mare here… Triangle is kind of a clunky word to use for a name, but I do like the idea behind it. I’d suggest Summer Asterism instead, but I’m not sure that’s much better (since the summer triangle is an asterism).
 
Alternatively, how would you feel about Polaris or Gliese? They’re both comprised of three stars. It would be fitting.
