Is it a bad thing that I like certain "despicable" characters?

Among my favorite characters in the FiM franchise include Principal Cinch (a rather despised character who pressured Twilight into unleashing a device filled with dangerous magic), mainly out of pity for her, of her old-fashioned appearance, or because she and Sunny Flare resemble each other (leading to the headcanon of them being relatives, or Cinch being Sunny’s mom).
 

 
Other favorite characters of mine include antagonists, like Gilda, Prince Blueblood, Flim and (especially due to mustache) Flam, mainly due to their cliche roles both in the show and in “Pooh’s Adventures”. Additionally, they inspired some of the characters in several fiction stories that I am planning to write.
 
Is that a bad thing that I like certain despised characters very much sometimes?

You can like who you want.

Well, do you know any incidents in which people get upset at others for liking hated characters (e.g. Fluttershy fans attacking Gilda fans)?
 

Err, Glimmer fans seem to catch some flak I suppose, but that’s because she’s reformed.
 
Most antagonists don’t really have any fans.

But I know some fans of some antagonists: not just Gilda, but also Trixie, Shimmer, Glim, Adagio and her gang, the Shadowbolt, and a few for Flam and Cinch (including myself).

Well, i haven’t exactly seen all of them yet. out of those i’ve seen, i’d go for Trixie, but if we count only non-reformed ones, it’d probably be Flim and Flam.

Pooh’s Adventures is a meme/fanfic collab based on editing videos of cartoons, but muting and putting up white subtitles for dialogue. It is also notorious for having posters filled with so many irrelevant characters. Also for Pooh’s Adventures the writers just paste their favorite characters replacing characters in other movies.

Nope. I was a big fan of Trixie, even before her return in Magic Duel. And she was still a heel there, and I still liked her as a character.
 
I liked Starlight, both as a villain and as a flawed student/heroine.

Prince Blueblood isn’t even despicable. The episode treated him like a jerk, going so far as to give him an annoying speech pattern and altering the bg music to influence our opinion of him, because the episode dictated we should cheer for Rarity. No matter how you slice it, she was being a shallow gold digger and Blueblood put up with her for much longer than she had any right to expect him to.

I think “shallow gold digger” is too harsh. And Blueblood was a jerk without knowing anything about Rarity or her intentions.
 
He’s not despicable, but he wasn’t a nice guy either.

Too harsh? She was plotting to marry him for his connection to the princess after admitting she hasn’t even met the guy.
 
Just how was Blueblood a jerk? Was it for not going along with Rarity’s plan, for turning some of her expectations around on her or for acting like most everyone else in Canterlot?

She idolized him, like she did the rest of the Canterlot elite. And yes, she thought that would help her boost her fashion design. But she wasn’t in it just for his money, as “gold digger” would imply.
 

 
Considering most everyone else in Canterlot are also jerks… yes, that would fit.

She did not mention anything about her fashion career when laying out why she wanted to marry him. What she did do was call him “eligible”. Someone who is “eligible” is thought to be a suitable future marriage partner, especially because they are rich and attractive, and Rarity had already mentioned he was handsome in the same sentence: “the most handsome, eligible unicorn stallion in Canterlot.”  
She also openly reveled in the thought of marrying into royalty.  
But whatever…
 
Canterlot ponies are a bit snooty. When everyone in your social circle is that way, you’re going to socially conditioned to be a bit snooty too. That doesn’t make you a jerk and even if it did, Rarity gave him a license to mess with her.  
The grand galloping gala takes place every year. Given how eligible he is considered and how approachable he was at the event, I’m sure he’s dealt with mares like Rarity before.

It’s been a while, so I may be misremembering the fashion bit. As for “eligible,” I think you’re reading too much into it.
 
He had no license to “mess” with Rarity at all. If he didn’t want her advances, a simple “no” would have sufficed. Playing passive aggressive bullshit games is just childish.
 
Either way, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

The discussions I get myself into because of semantics… I used the word jerk because I didn’t wanna say asshole. But here you go.

Knowing how shallow people can be, I know the easiest way to get rid of them is to act unappealing. The only thing Blueblood did to Rarity was act differently than she expected him to and turning her expectations around on her, making her do the things she expected him to do for her.

I mean we can start playing a real-villain-not-real-villain game and try to rule out like half of them but nah. Doesn’t count because redeemed/more bully than evil/etc. fiine, I’ll accept, but Chryssy is as much of a Big Bad as any, “doesn’t count cuz she’s a supervillain” sounds like a ridiculous excuse. xD

Hmm, let’s see: actively refusing to open a simple door out of common courtesy, insulting Applejack’s baked goods in front of her, and last but not least using Rarity as a shield to salvage himself from a plummeting cake.
 
I’d say that pretty solidly classifies him as a jerk.
