For my personal tastes, the CGI looks nice cf. other CGI animations I’ve seen before.
But that Gummy…’s eyes are creppy…

There are some issues like the human poses and some stretchy limbs, but for a 3D model it’s not too bad. But the voice really bugs me, like they couldn’t even get Andrea Libman for it?

It’s far from the worst official 3D, but something is a big off about the face. All features (eyes, mouth, snout) are a little too big, and also the shape of the eyes is a little skewed, which makes them look not right. But what is pretty great is the animation. Expressive, cartoony, sometimes it’s a little too fast for what it’s doing and snaps to poses a little too often, but overall, for a TV 3D animation it’s pretty great.

For an official 3D it is a step in the right direction, but I do hope that it’s not actually a preview of things to come in G5. Models can (and should) be better.

Also the voice bugs me as well. Just, why?

Personally I’m willing to forgive them some initial flaws as far as the CGI/animation is concerned. Lest we forget, FiM itself had some impressive visual improvements between the first and later seasons.

Besides, for a beginning animation that seems suspiciously well designed to both show off the change in format and demonstrate the movement of a particularly animated (no pun intended) character, it’s not half bad. So long as they keep at it and work on improving, it’ll probably end up being just fine.

The improvements you’re talking about have nothing to do with Hasbro and have everything to do with DHX and how dedicated they were. Gameloft never updated their models which look ugly as sin from the front, and they had a decade to do it. So it’s going to be up to the studio that will end up making G5, which is not going to be DHX, I presume.

I never said it did have anything to do with Hasbro. I’m just saying that however rough this animation may appear, we can’t know at this point that this is just how it’s always going to look. The studio making these could easily prove to be just as dedicated as DHX ended up being. We just have to allow them time to actually get better.

I was just trying to make a point that it all depends on a studio and we can’t expect every MLP show to improve.

Also, while DHX have improved things, the show had a very strong art style to begin with, so all those improvements are kinda “side adjustments”: nicer backgrounds, fixing Celestia’s face, better animation, more variety in the look of background characters. And those kind of improvements I can kinda see happen with the new show as well if it does well and goes on for long enough. But what I am actually afraid of with G5 is that the art style in general is going to suck, that the base look of the characters isn’t going to be great, and I’m having a very hard time imagining that they will go back to the drawing board and change all character models, just because some people aren’t liking it. I’ve never seen a show changing it’s art style because enough people have said that it’s art style is bad. Way more probable that the studio will just listen to the people who likes it or will try to defend it’s vision, or the show will just flop in general.

I’m not happy myself that I sound like such a downer on this, but I feel like that’s the unfortunate truth. I’m just hoping that the art style will be good and we won’t have to ask for any changes.

Cringe Lord
Having watched it… it’s decent. I definitely think this is a G5 test of sorts (like the horrid G3.9 ponies), preparing us for a shift to 3D and teasing design changes (note that Pinkie has defined hooves) in the coming generation.

Of course, a feature film budget and lighting will make a huge difference when G5 rolls around.

Why does the CGI and animation look like a shinier version of those infamous children’s YouTube channels like Johnny Johnny Yes Papa? Being real, the animation is pretty good and pretty fitting for Pinkie, but the 3D models are uncanny. Her voice sounds offkey and like it’s breaking every three seconds, don’t know why Andrea isn’t involved. Oh and the toy was honestly pretty creepy. Barring all that, the joke with the boxes was pretty funny, I liked Gummy oddly and I can see why this would be entertaining to 6 year old girls.
