Flurry Heart - what is the opinion of her still?

Wasn’t keen on her after The Crystalling (which to be fair was crap) but my opinion is much improved after yesterday’s episode.

While I disagree with you about the quality of “The Crystalling” (I honestly thought it was pretty decent as two part openings go), I have to admit that Flurry Heart’s first appearance didn’t really influence me much one way or the other. I felt the idea that she was the first alicorn born in who knows how many thousands of years was pretty interesting, but as they haven’t (yet) developed much on that idea it remained more of a curious footnote than anything substantial.
 
As far as how yesterday’s episode influenced me, I actually like her more as a character now. Despite the people complaining the episode was just going to be “Baby Cakes” the sequel, I really don’t feel like that ended up being the case. It was much less a situation where an inexperienced babysitter is overwhelmed and much more a case where Twilight’s other promises and obligations cause her to not be quite as attentive as her niece hopes she’ll be. And it was also nice seeing how much her parents care for her even on a night out without her. A small detail, but it adds much more to the family dynamic than the usual “frazzled parents desperate to get away” trope would have.
 
So yes, I do think my opinion has improved. There are little hints as to what kind of pony she might someday be on display, and she was much less of a whiny baby than I think many were expecting. A good episode all around.

I thoroughly dislike Flurry Heart, she’s the only character I really dislike in the entire show.
 
In her first episodes she was just plain annoying and everypony was too stupid to handle her.  
Now for the newest ep, that did not help matters.
 
Those are all opinions of course but here is my beef:  
She is a baby. I cannot stand how she has her magic almost fully under control, while Sweetie Belle for instance could not lift a single broom at a much older age. Flurry on the other hand can lift whatever she wants, she can even conjure a forcefield and TELEPORT for crying out loud, stuff that most adult ponies can NOT do, not withstanding without any training whatsoever.  
Not to mention she can fly without troubles - again in contrast to Scootaloo who can not, although granted she might be handicapped and never fly. Still flying perfectly at that age just seems incredibly forced and contrived to me.  
While not perfect she could also draw… as a baby… I’ll leave it at that
 
I dislike how she keeps messing stuff up, like throwing her mashed peas everywhere, and nopony ever gets upset at her, at all. She vandalized the entire hospital and nopony said anything.
 
Again to her ridiculous exagerated power level: When she lifted everything in the room where Twilight was, Twilight tried to reverse things and she said “I can’t keep up with her.”  
Let that sink in, adult alicorn element of magic Twilight Sparkle who studied for years and is one of the best magicians ever can not keep up with a baby, take that as you will but I dislike it greatly.
 
When Twilight finally snaps and raises her voice against Flurry, Flurry starts crying and Twilight instantly takes it back going “none of this is your fault”… like, what? All of it is her fault. Before anyone goes she’s just a baby, she doesn’t know any better, I could agree on that if all the other things about her didn’t make her up to be so damn evolved already, she even seems to fully understand things said to her.
 
Lastly, she completely destroyed the potential of Shining Armor and Cadance as characters when she spawned: Those two are separated from their foal for a single afternoon and immediately start crying just because everything reminds them of her and they cannot even stand being separated for one single day - it’s as if these characters had NOTHING else to them other than being the parents of that baby, which absolutely sucks to me. Two potentially very interesting characters reduced to nothing more than parenthood is sad.
 
On the bright side at least in the new episode Twilight was adorable, Spike was brilliant as a supporting character, the brief Shining and Cadance slife of life interaction with other ponies was very very good, how the sick foals were happy that Twilight visits them was endearing and the episode itself was at least funny most of the time. That doesn’t change the fact that I despise Flurry Heart, though.

Flurry Heart reminded me of the hardships that comes with taking care of a baby, but also the fact that she was really cute this episode. I don’t mind her much.

I liked her when she was first introduced and still do. Which is unusual for me, because usually I can’t stand babies.

I’m quite fond of her and look forward to seeing more of her in future episodes.

You have to keep in mind that she’s an alicorn, and this is likely the norm for ponies born as such. I’d imagine Tia and Luna were in the same situation at birth.

I still don’t like that she’s an alicorn, but she was cute in the latest ep.

Still not a fan. Though I’m biased since I hate babies.
 
And it doesn’t help her and Shining/Cadance are the family of “buy our toys!!”

Like most controversial moments in the show like Twilight becoming an alicorn, I think most fans either accepted it right away or calmed down after a while and realized that this change isn’t as bad as they thought it was going to be.

I completely agree with you there on Shining Armor and Cadance being wasted in potential, and this is what I said on FIMfiction which three people have agreed with me.
 
I’ve never been a fan of Flurryheart in the beginning, and quite honestly I feel they have been making a mess of Shining Armor and Cadance from the beginning after season 3. They started off as Tertiary characters at the end of season 2, I had hoped to see more character development out of the two in hopes they would contribute to Twilight’s adventures, but they’ve been demoted to the point where they aren’t really involved much in the show, and now they do this? They add a character that only gets minor appearances? I really can’t stand the fact that they add in characters but it’s only for one-shot appearances, and Shining Armor for sure is one of those characters apart from Cadance that had been treated too badly out of character even from the animators. Not meaning to put hate on anyone, but I really wish that the producers could have done a better job with Shining Armor and Cadance in the beginning and not rush them into parenthood. Because it’s not good to add in characters if they are not going to be around much and only for occasional appearances.  
Every time an episode with Flurry comes on, I’m just going to skip it and not consider her canon at all because they destroyed Shining Armor and Cadance because of what they had done. I’ll also add that instead of giving proper love to characters in the show, it does feel more like that the show is just something to promote the toylines, and that’s just it. Sorry once again, but it’s just how I feel.

If that is the case I would still wholly dislike that. I dislike her apparent immense power…  
But power is one thing, the other is control/knowledge: Why would a baby alicorn know/be able to perform teleportation and forcefields and advanced levitation without ever learning how?  
You could again say that’s maybe just how Baby Alicorns are but that feels like a very easy and weak excuse for something so illogical if this was the case

I can understand why you feel that way about her.  
I certainly hope the season does something to give you a better impression of her.

Cute! She’s such a dumb baby but she’s also sweet and has pretty colours.
 
Honestly, I think part of why I like her so much is that both of her appearances so far seem to communicate that parenthood is a profoundly exhausting and stressful experience, which is exactly how it has always seemed to me (although I wouldn’t know firsthand). Obviously it’s heavily exaggerated due to Flurry’s ludicrous magical abilities (which continue to be hilarious to me), but I’m always impressed by this show’s commitment to a parental viewpoint in this regard.

Going by the experiences of my friends and family with kids, yeah, it’s exhausting even when everything works out well, doubly so if the kid has health issues or something like that. But, apparently, also massively rewarding in a way pretty much nothing else can match. :)

I love the cute little weapon of mass destruction. Hope we see her get more character development in this season.
 
The amount and type of hate she get’s for just being an alicorn is often uncalled for. I mean if you make art of a baby getting slaughtered you have issues. And just makes me hope even more Glimmy becomes one at some point.

I’ve always been fine with Flurry Heart. I mean, sure I’d have prefered if she weren’t an alicorn, but we can’t always get what we want.
