Forum post and message view change and post/comment CSS redesign

You may have noticed posts and messages look more like comments now, and, if we’ve done our job properly, not noticed comments looking any different.  
In addition to trying to unify the looks of the two, we’ve used flexboxes to replace the old table layout. This shouldn’t create any noticible difference (comments should look exactly the same, especially), but it should make it somewhat easier for us to change the look of things.
 
Please use this thread to talk about how you feel about the change to posts and make suggestions relating to it.  
As always, if there’s any bugs to report (such as the new flex layout not working), do so in the bug reports thread.

So are the posts made and topics started counts not going to be coming back?

I’d have to disagree. This new UI does look pretty good, and a lot more consistent.

It wouldn’t be much of a problem ordinarily, but you can’t find postcount or topics started count on someone’s profile like you can with things such as comments.  
It lists how many total you’ve made if you go to their profile and click “Posts” and scroll to the bottom of the page, and you can find topics started by using the search form and searching for the user and checking “Topic opener” (and I guess you could also find total posts by not checking that) but that seems needlessly complicated.

Just wanna make it absolutely clear that I entirely agree. The version of the code I thought was getting deployed moved the counters to icons next to badges. Ho hum.

Thing is, I don’t know what flexboxes are nor do I have any real knowledge what CSS is. I googled flexboxes and I saw a few guides and whatnot as to what they are, but the way things were worded on the first few search results gave me the impression that I was expected to have some kind of knowledge of CSS beforehand. The technical gains that it sounds like y’all were aiming for are lost on me, basically.
 
I prefer the older UI because it looked much more like something I would expect from a discussion forum, though. The post boxes were larger, the avatars were larger, post count/threads created were displayed, and I liked how the badges were displayed below the avatars as opposed to beside it. So yeahh, the reasons I prefer the old UI are subjective at their core, but I think the comments-section style UI is ugly for forum discussion.
 
But my main reason is because that externally embedded images look way too big in comparison to the postbox itself
 
Like, maybe it’s just me, but I’ve already posted one of these images back on the old UI and it didn’t look nearly as disproportionately huge. I am most definitely not a fan of that.

This works well for my phone. I don’t know about PC yet.
 
The preview has an avatar problem though. It looks like it was squished by the side so it ain’t proportional.

It’s not like I dislike the new forum design and I’m certainly not complaining, but just for the sake of stating an opinion, I preferred the old forum design and wish the image comments looked like that.

I think I liked the old forumpost visual layout better, but not enough to SHITPOST LOUDLY about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Moving badges up next to the username makes sense, given the feature inflation that badges are undergoing; if people are going to wind up with fifteen or twenty of the things they might as well be positioned where linebreaks will be less of a concern.
 
Would it actually be difficult to re-apply things like postcount and topics started, or would it just be juggling the placement? Neither means much to me personally, but they seem to be popular features.

I think the new layout is slightly too cramped. It works in the image comments, but not in the forums. Some padding should be added to make it look nicer.

Nicks on image comments now is uncomfortably closer to avatar than they were.  
 
I think it could be easily fixed.

Are avatars much different than they used to be? It’s hard to tell on my phone.

Different is bad. I preferred the old system because it was visually distinct from the comments section on images.

I liked the stats, I didn’t like the initially proposed position of them due to width variances in names and badges.
 
Current system has outright removed the stats we already had.
 
New versions of things shouldn’t remove functionality.
