I tried again and it appears to have fixed itself. I noticed it on several images around the time >>1655438 was uploaded, including on that particular image itself.

Can we make it so artists can edit the description of art under their artist tag?

No, but if you give us the description you would like we can do that for you. Like on the OC Description thread.

I mean give registered artists the ability to modify the uploader description on posts that belong to them…

That’s been recommended and is being looked at, but it’s a fairly long term project.
 
And, again, if you want the description changed on a piece of your art, or want it changed so you are the uploader, you are the artist and can request that just by reporting the image and letting us know what you want.
 
So, until the feature is available, just let us know what you want and the workaround is that we will make it happen by hand.

kk. Now onto the next thing. I really think that considering how some files on this website are 20mb + and all, We really should be able to have avatars bigger than 300kb… Maybe something like 1mb? This would allow me to have the animated avatar I want to have without having to make it seizure inducing…
 
Also I could have a simpler animation but use a aPNG instead which would be RADICAL…

What would happen when an image has multiple artists tagged ? The community collabs would be a very extreme example of that.  
Also, it could create description vandalism. Pretty unlikely, given that it could only be artists with a verified account, but possible.

Just give admins an option to disable editing on certain posts like important ones like that… Given posts like that rarely happen…

I’d personally love such a thing, but like what’s to stop someone from just adding their tag to a picture and then ‘effing with the description? Like, the tags have a history list and a structure; descriptions can be anything so people could do real passive vandalism like erase it or just replace it with like derp without anyone realizing damage was done, y’know? :P

Yes, that’s why it’s taking time to figure out how, or even if, to do that.

You’re ignoring the “Change the tag, edit the description, a winnar is U” thing. Especially given that ANON users can change tags and we already have people periodically (like, multiple times a week sometimes) trying to pose as the owners of images they didn’t draw, it’s a valid concern.
 
Either way, it’s not going to happen overnight.
 
So, if you have an image that someone else uploaded that you want to be made the uploader of, or if you want the description changed on one of your images without changing the uploader, please report the image and describe what you would like done in the report.

and would a VERIFIED artist really risk having their verification stripped away from them over something like this?

The artist being verified would have to be one of the requirements for it, yes. But you are enormously underestimating the lengths some people will go to just to fuck up one image for someone else, just once.
 
For now, if in the future someone uploads one of your images and you feel you want to edit the description of it, just report it and if everything looks fine then we’ll edit it for you or make you the uploader - your choice.

Cool cool, At least I know that this idea has been circulating… And how about that 1mb avatar limit?

Personally, I’m not a fan. If your avatar is an image that would have had a “Seizure Warning” on it if it was uploaded to the site, then it shouldn’t be used as an avatar. That thing was giving people migraines, no matter how big or small it was.
 
Although it would be nice to be able to link to an image on the site and have it automagically made into avatar for you, like with the >>#t thing, or have the ability to crop it. But that’s just spitballing. I’m not a developer on the site.

That’s the thing, If I could upload a 1-2 mb avatar I could make a much slower animation that would not give anyone any problems… Imagine my animation but 4-5 times slower… It’s impossible that it could give someone a migraine/seizure…
 
Also the thumbnail as an avatar thing is a GOOD idea, e621 did that and it turned out great. Even clicking on the avatar sends you to the pic itself.

To add onto my idea, The site could detect if the file is a jpeg or png and ask the user to limit the files to 500kb but up to 2000kb if it detects a GIF or aPNG file… Just sayin’ <3

To be honest, I’m surprised avatars aren’t downscaled by the image-processing scripts the site uses for everything else. I don’t know where on the site they’re displayed at over 100x100px, the size they’re gonna be 90% of the time, and yet derpibooru always serves the original, unoptimized file at original dimensions. Even on mobile, which is a real data guzzler if you don’t realize it’s happening.
 
Of course, if you’re trying to make an animated avatar, optipng or whatever isn’t going to be able to do much for that without seriously degrading the quality. A lot of gif creation tools are pretty bad at optimizing them, too, and full-color cycling the background of a gif is about the worst-case scenario for the format to try and optimize. If you really want an animated avatar, consider designing it with the limitations of the file format in mind.

On an hDPI monitor avatars can go up to 210x210px on profiles. Also nothing is stopping the devs from adding an option to disable animated avatars by instead serving a generated still frame to those who want to save mobile data.
 
I’m not gonna compromise my creativity and RGB thirst because of some 20 year old file format and a limit put upon avatars that was probably here since the start. Change doesn’t hurt.
 
If I could use a 1-2 mb animated PNG as my avatar, Everything would go on perfectly fine…
 
Also to add, about ~5% of users use animated avatars anyways… If you can browse through the submissions and come across 1-2mb gif thumbnails, I think you’ll survive the 5-7 1-2 mb avatars you’ll come across during a session. (which will be cache for the next session, Where you’ll meet 3-4 new animated avatars. and 3 more on the next session ect.)

I was just commenting on how unrefined derpibooru’s avatar system is; don’t take it personally. I just think it’s bonkers that avatars that are 300, 500, or 1000 pixels on a side are getting served everywhere. Checking for hiDPI screens is possible, but perhaps unnecessary, since even 210px is smaller than most of the avatars in the last couple pages of this thread alone. And to be sure, one of the quickest ways to get more breathing room with a GIF is to make sure it’s not bigger than it needs to be, followed by reducing the number of pixels changing color from frame to frame (GIF has pretty rudimentary inter-frame compression, if it’s even used in the first place). Even APNG isn’t going to be able to do much inter-frame optimization with a lot of motion going on.

Again I’m not going to simplify my animations to make up for ridiculously low limits, I already know how to make my files small, that’s how I got my seizure inducing avatar to be 299kb. All I can do now is hope that the limit gets raised eventually so that I can do complicated animations without having to make them play fast.

You can change the frame rate in GIF (even setting a different time on each frame if you wanted) without increasing the file size. Wesley Foxx’s yappy-mouthed avatar is only 2 frames long, about as optimized as it can be, and it doesn’t suffer from extreme speed.

I think you’re getting a little astray from the purpose of this thread. If you’d like to talk about animations, it might be better to create a new thread in the Art Chat forums, please.

Ok, but seriously I don’t remember who mentioned the idea of allowing users to set a post as their avatar but I need this,
 
I could use any avatar I want and if someone doesn’t want to see it they wont have to because well they are probably using filters to hide those kind of images to begin with. Either replacing them with default svg avatars or maybe even a fallback avatar that users can also chose or upload. I can see having the ability to chose any thumbnail as your NSFW avatar and a secondary obligatory SFW avatar like everyone that has an avatar uses now (or just the default one).
 
So let’s say I set my NSFW avatar as my OC with an obvious ahegao face and a ballgag and my SFW avatar as my oc just smiling at the viewer for those who are set to only see SFW things, Everyone would be happy and people that don’t mind/Love seeing NSFW posts/avatars would have a lot more fun.
 
Just saying <3, Obviously there’s a lot of potential problems with this idea, But there’s always a solution that can bring us closer to such an amazing future for derpibooru. Take e621 for example, They use thumbnail avatars and everything’s fine.
 
Obviously this idea if it were to be accepted would probably be quite low on the list of priorities, but it is one I think would make a lot of people happy.
