I really thought the name changing feature was a bug at first. I feel embarrassed.

Ok, all the glitches should be fixed, so if you try to rename your account to a name that’s already taken, it won’t lock you out of renaming for 90 days and show the “Previously known as” text.

Ahhhh, now that’s more like it.

That only works if you don’t have a personal title, and anyway, it’s fairly easy to check by looking at the person’s profile.

Automatically tag “animated” when uploading animated gif or webm. I’m tired of uploaders who cannot tag it properly, and whole page almost freezes on my mobile until megabytes of animation loaded it one appears. And it takes really long time with EDGE. And because of same reason I even cannot tag it by myself.

Neat idea, but I can foresee it being a pain to keep track of who’s who sometimes, provided they continually change name/avatar. Kind of like Discord.
 
 
Another feature for me to not use, too.

I’m starting to think the site should record and display all past usernames someone has had. For example, Applejack007 changed his name to ☆ and then he became Chrys and he’ll probably be someone else tomorrow. It’s messy and hard to keep track of everyone if only one of the previous names is shown. I can see multiple posts of his where the “Previously known as” is not accurate at all anymore.

There is a long cooldown on the name change function.

Names can only be changed once every 90 days. We overrode the limit on his account because he got hit by a glitch when trying to change it and some other reasons.

Regardless of time limits, I think that having a list of all previous names is a good idea. Maybe something on the profile page, or in hover-text, like the short badge descriptions.

I’d agree. Otherwise people might effectively be able to change/hide their identities given enough time.
 
And if that is added in, it should probably also track when people were using which aliases (so users could understand old posts/comments/etc).

Yeah, I have the feeling it could create quite a mess after some time.

Put spoiler:eqg series in the tag editor (maybe remove the specials?)

Also, a way to make it so that the user’s profile url won’t get messed up on name change, since if their name, the previous link is dead. It matters if the link was posted offsite, which means clicking on it will give users:  
“Sorry, couldn’t find that user!”

It can probably be implemented fairly easily, have a gallery owner and contributors. That’s literally like, a single extra column in the database and a few view edits.
