File size is not really any indication as to which image is “better”, since different optimization algorithms work differently and produce different file sizes.
 
Additionally, while the duplicate image comparisons/reports are publicly visible, they are still considered a staff tool, and feature requests regarding staff tools are only really considered when they come from site staff.

Either it’s new or I just somehow missed it until now, but what is the “Uploader request” category when reporting an image?

If you upload something you can report it for a takedown. However, the artists retain their rights, so if you want something deleted as the uploader you usually need to include a reason for it, and we normally won’t honor uploader takedown requests after a few hours. So, it’s mostly for when you uploaded the wrong version of something and don’t want to merge. We get enough of those kinds of request that having a separate category for it helps sort out what is being asked.

In the industry we call that “Clear if understood”. If you don’t know what it’s doing, it makes no sense at all, but once you know what it’s for, it’s hard to remember why it was confusing.

I used the “uploader request” thing once but the staff refused it. I was told that an image could only be taken down by request by the artist itself.
 
I might have been able to fix the issue by uploading the proper image and requesting a merge. I didn’t think of that at the time, though.

I see three reports for a reason of “Takedown request”, but not “Uploader Request”, but in any case I think that the artist correctly retained their rights for those images.
 
Uploader Request is more often useful for edits or screencaps, or things where there isn’t an artist involved or the artist is also the uploader and they wish to remain anonymous.
 
It’s less useful where there is an artist involved who is not the uploader.

So the regular image search is great (honestly, it’s the best), but searching for tags themselves is still pretty barebones. One thing I think could help with that is being able to select what type of tag you’re looking for, from a dropdown. Something like [All | Normal | Artist | Episode | OCs | System ] or whatever names you want to give the particular colors.

I’m curious what that would do to help. If you already know a word or two in the tag you’re looking for, isn’t the list narrowed enough to not make that type of specification necessary?
 
Maybe I’m not understanding what it’s supposed to accomplish.

They only thing I’d change about the tag search page is adding a way to search without the automatic wildcards before and after the search term.  
Some time ago I was looking for tags starting with some word, can’t remember exactly what it was, but 90% of the results I got had that word somewhere in the middle and there was no way to exclude them from the search.

Couple reasons: Often I’ll be looking for a tag that isn’t an artist but either contains part of several artists’ names or the word “art” or something. Or I’ll be looking specifically for an artist, but there isn’t a good way to insert a wildcard in the middle of a tag if I don’t remember the name. Or I’ll be looking up some obscure tag and excluding OCs and artists would help narrow down several pages of results if I’ve only got a couple letters to go on.
 
But being able to deal with the wildcards more finely might be an adequate solution to all those problems, too. I just don’t want to create an entirely new syntax just for that search field if we don’t have to. Maybe leave off the automatic wildcards if a * is present in the field already?

I want a feature to search for images having only one artist tag I’m looking for.

Problem: There are apparently people who subscribe to a user only to downvote every single one of their posts, which leads to bullying behaviour.
 
Suggestion: if a user downvotes, and previously has downvoted more posts of that user than upvoted, they are automatically unsubscribed to that user.
 
This should have minimal effect on legitimate users, as you wouldn’t subscribe to someone you wanted to follow just to downvote them every time. And it would prevent mob harassment from people who only follow a user to downvote them and leave nasty comments.

It’s easier to just contact the mods and ask them to look at the votes to see if someone really is mass downvoting.

Searching for the artist tag and then -edit, -collaboration, -meme should leave you with mostly original art.
