Downvoting is being replaced by Hiding

It’s almost as if a downvote literally means nothing but “I don’t like this”. That’s the whole point. I don’t like this, for whatever reason, and I am going to use the feature for saying it. Forcing people to hide stuff is bad. This is a bad change. Very bad.

Honestly while I feel bad for cute little Downvote Horse I feel good about this change.  
Far to often I feel I see things I’d like to filter but can’t find the right tag to hide it (assuming it’s even been tagged adequately).

Yes. Go to your display settings and check the box, then search my:downvotes.

Imo, beginner artists can still try to strive for improving by seeing their art have a lower score. A low score can have as much an impact as a negative score.

i’m actually not sure how to feel about this.  
on the one hand i found downvotes sorta helpful for getting me to draw better [though maybe not in the healthiest way], on the other hand i also draw a lot of niche fetishes that were probably being downvoted for theme/kink sometimes.

sigh… just when i was about to ask about a problem related to someone using a part of my oc in a way that i highly dislike, the only answer i will get now will be “filter it”

How will I know what I’m not supposed to like now?

So now anons will post more…“human” photos without having -30 score, they’ll see 0, and be happy.  
How will it help to fight such “images”? Reports are only so effective.

Okay then. Doesn’t affect me much honestly, I downvote hide images very rarely.

Eh, I don’t think that downboats were harmful. I have had many of my uploads downboated into the negatives and it just made me laugh.

Not every site needs a dislike button.

I wuv the Downvote OC, she’s such a cutie and now she’ll just evolve a little, if only mentally, like a Persona 5 Maxed Confidant Persona.
 
I think this is a good change and will encourage more people to post that may be starting up, as well as all of the other benefits you listed that come along with it.
 
It can be intimidating to more new/inexperienced artists to post art and potentially get bombarded with downvotes and negativity and maybe even zero comments that clarify why a downvote was given. I imagine this change will reduce a lot of that and pave the way for some more useful dialogue to take place, maybe.

I can understand your viewpoint but I have a slightly different way of looking at it, constructive criticism is always good for newer artists and anyone that makes mistakes you think could be improved, but people now have to actively comment in accordance with the rules to do that, having a pile of downvotes with no comments is just discouraging to many people, and this change makes sense for that reason if you ask me.

I don’t know why you would want to search or the things you downvoted. Like wasn’t that point of them is that you didn’t like them, so why would you want to see the things you downvoted?
 
Also, this is a nice change mods. Too bad we already have people complaining about it.

I never downvoted anything anyway, so I don’t really care.

Sheesh, this is the Netflix change all over again. Granted, the abuse of the voting system was bad, but you could have at least let the hide button still mean -1 point. “A minimum score of zero”, even on the really weird and inexplicable garbage under the ‘wat’, ‘why’, and ‘not salmon’ tags that deserve it? You’ve basically removed the point of voting all together.
