True, true, I’m just saying they should probably be in touch even if you don’t ship them.
(And my headcanon is that if Sunset ever returns to Equestria, she’ll be asking Princess Twilight to grant her asylum.)

Maybe it’s simpler than that. Maybe Twilight just stays in touch because she’d miss Sunset, the same way she’d miss Fluttershy or Rarity or any one of her friends if she lost touch with them. It’s just that this particular friend lives in another dimension.

I was happy to see this appear in the last EQG annual (the holiday special), but if it is ever on the show, I fully expect it only to be a background element. Maybe you’ll see the book but nothing else.
Headcanon-wise, yes, I believe they continue to talk via the books on a regular basis. Not because I ship them but because both have found that learning from the other improves them.
Can we at lest agree that, shipping or no shipping, it’d be nice if there were hints that Twilight and Sunset were keeping in touch at some point in season 5? Or has at least told Celestia what’s been going on (considering Celestia speaks of Sunset Shimmer with quite a bit of regret and knowing her wayward pupil has turned things around might help her peace of mind)?
I don’t remember her getting to eat it. I’m assuming she either ate it just before the Maud scene, or it vanished without a trace because it’s Pinkie Pie’s whipped cream, and we shouldn’t think to hard on the things that Pinkie Pie is capable of.
I just checked, and yes, it just disappears (it’s on her finger just before the meaningful looks, and then disappears when Sunset’s about to close the fridge door and sees Maud).
However, the implication is there that she does what everyone else does in the world when they snack on whipped cream (if they don’t stuff it in their mouth to start) - put a bit on the finger and lick/eat it. The scene is written completely innocently as two teenage girls bonding on a common problem, but bronies always have shipping goggles on.
How can you be sure whether it’s there or not? What if there are subliminal messages in the show specifically targeted at shippers?[/conspiracy]

I’m pretty sure at this point, the creators are just adding scenes like this on purpose. They probably want the fans to ship the characters and do stuff like this.

Okay, you are like the third person who said it now that Sunset licks the cream in the movie.
BUT, in at least the version i have(and such a screenshot has never been uploaded to derpibooru), she never does so! It just disappears(which is how this idea to the comic came to my mind)
So is the scene missing in my version or are you guys remembering it wrong?

Both the kitchen scene, and the Lyra/Bon-bon piano scene are boarded/animated in a way that throws tons of pandas at the fandom, but if you are completely ignorant of how we see shipping, they are rather tame.
The kitchen scene is just Sunset going down to get a bit of food and finding only whipped cream. She squirts a dollop and licks it off her finger, no lingering (as this comic implies). Everyone’s done that, nothing sensual about it at all, unless you are like us bronies and see romantic subtext anywhere.
Why would they animate heavily implicit LyraBon if they didn’t think that way? XD
They had to have seen it coming when they had Sunset lick the whipped cream off her finger. There’s no way they weren’t expecting us to go there. They must know us better than that by now.
