Sadly is kinda a trend to mistake originality for depriving a character of his/her defining traits. For Spike was nothing major. But i’ve seen way too many horrors from vampires that don’t drink blood and have nothing vampiric to them, shy succubies wearing hijabs, demons that have nothing demonic about them and usually are the good guys, and so on.  
They simply are not what they should represent anymore. Is like depicting a human with green skin, horns, 5 arms and three leg, and make him eat rocks, cause “oh, no always the same boring human, i want to be original”. Is the same twisted reasoning of a final fantasy monster/weapon designer.

Modern invention? How modern do you think that was thought up for dragons? You might think wingless dragons suck, but you don’t answer for the majority of everyone.

That’s no “lore”. That’s something some shows make up and others don’t.  
In most tales, myths, legends, etc, all dragons have wings. Its almost as defining as breathing fire.  
Wingless dragons are, for the most part, a modern invention. One that kinda sucks, imo.  
There’s many ways to make a dragon character/Spike unique and interesting.  
They don’t have to strip him from one of the coolest and most iconic dragon traits for that.

It kind of did. Yeah sure he had his personality but what made it solid for me was the lack of wings.

I’m aware of that one. He’s not the one being put on display more often than spike however. Trust me I want to know more about other dragons.

At this point probably not since they gave him wings, throwing that possibility out. We all want to learn about every character, including spike and his parents. Now I don’t care so much because they’ll be just your average flying dragon. Big whoop.

No it was a possible idea they could expanded on. I mentioned this years ago back before season 6 and 7 that they can explore more on dragons. This isn’t some headcanon.

the possible lore they could of expanded on since none of the ponies know anything about dragons. They could of done more with it, learning about other types of dragons.

Hasbro obviously couldn’t afford bothering with the lore that there are other types of dragons with no wings.

Everydragon gets his/her wings at some point.  
Ember, Smolder, Torch, Garble and now Spike.

And that’s what’s going to make him not so special now for me. He was fine without wings.

He already was a dragon. He’s just not special anymore.
