It SEEMS like the Crusaders were captured by changelings, but what actually happened was that changelings tried to capture them, but Apple Bloom karate-kicked them into submission and Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle wrapped them up in their own goo. The smug grins are just their way of rubbing it in.
