Which leaves me with one thought, clearly it’s time for Twilight Sparkle to use the magic mirror to visit a different universe with something other than pastel horses or hairless monkeys, to continue her quest for the perfect Dreamy Cute Bottom.

I’ve always accepted the EqG series to be directly connected to the main series’ lore. Frankly, I never had problems with it. I actually think it’s rather cool.

Story-wise, the wild magic flying around gives them a free pass to bring back the Sirens as villains.

Kinda funny that the Dazzlings re-appeared in the series proper before the Equestria Girls series. Granted it was a flashback, but still. Hopefully it means they show up in the EQG series, especially since the theme of Shadow Play was redeeming someone previously thought irredeemable.
 
On the other hand, the lack of any new Dazzling merch aside from the Adagio mini has my hopes kept in check.

I certainly hope that happens. Explanations and/or retcons to these plot holes have been long overdue.

I thought it was awesome that the Sirens made an appearance! I always wondered how they got banished. (I’ve stopped caring about the comics awhile ago, fwiw.)

And ultimately that’s my beef with Lance. He seems to be saying the scene in the pic does not make EqG1 and FG canon just because he hates those two. Ain’t how it works, bruh.

I have no problem with people choosing their personal canon. It’s when they start telling everyone else what they can’t include that I start getting pissed off.

Well considering EG is getting a full blown series in 2018? Perhaps they will fill in the gaps in an episode or two. Perhaps sunset has a flashback that fills in that gap of time? If they took time to address questions like:
 
Where does she live?
 
How does she make money?
 
Then maybe somewhere down the road they’ll explain some of those plot holes cause they do urke me just not enough to be a big deal.

Don’t get me wrong, EqG as a whole contains some good stuff. I like RR and LoE, and don’t mind acknowledging those at all. In general, I like the spinoff and hope it produces more cool stuff.
 
My only real problems are EqG1 and FG. The former contains tons of baffling plot holes, and the latter is just plain awful. So I pick and choose what to accept from them, and others should feel free to do the same.

I just don’t think that those few hours are nearly enough time for Sunset to formulate this plan. Especially considering that she couldn’t have known that this plan was even possible before crossing the portal.

A whole day of unacounted activity on Sunset’s part, on a place that is about to have a princess summit, with the recently crowned princess of friendship attending being the thing everybody is talking about?

Short version:
 
Sunset went to the human world before the elements of harmony were rediscovered. She had no way of checking in on Equestria while she was in the human world. She couldn’t have possibly known that the elements were rediscovered by the time she got back, and she definitely couldn’t have known that the element of magic existed at all, since it was a complete mystery. She couldn’t have known who carried the element of magic, what it looked like, and where Twilight’s room in the palace was. There was also no way she could have known that taking an element of harmony into another world would change the way it worked.
 
Basically, there’s no possible way that Sunset could have had prior knowledge of any of the things that she needed to formulate and enact her plan to steal and use the element of magic. And yet she knows these things anyway, for absolutely no reason.

I’m having trouble figuring out what the plot hole regarding the Element of Magic is.

Not quite. Acknowledging EqG1 as canon with no caveats automatically makes that answer way more complicated due to the sheer amount of plot holes.
 
But since RR is a good movie that requires certain parts of EqG1 to exist, I prefer to acknowledge EqG1 in broad strokes, like so:
 
“In EqG1, Sunset momentarily returns to Equestria because reasons, and Twilight has to pursue her into the human world, because reasons. She makes friends with the HuMane Five and eventually confronts Sunset, who is able to turn herself into a demon because reasons. Twilight figures out a way to use magic in the human world because reasons, and gives the HuMane five this ability because also reasons. They defeat Sunset, she repents her evil ways, and Twilight goes home. The end.”
 
It helps that these are more or less the only details about the first movie that the later ones seem to acknowledge.

Too much effort. It’s easier to just go with the least complicated answer: I see Dazzlings in both MLP and EqG, that means EqG is canon. Done.
