Description

When Twilight had embarked on an expedition of Ghastly Gorge in search of fossils, she had written a lengthy risk assessment, with a special focus on Quarry Eels. Unfortunately for the educated equine, she had glossed over the local leeches as she had assumed them little more than a mildly irritating parasite. This assumption would quickly come back to bite her, when her little adventure ended abruptly with an engulfing encounter with a particularly large annelid…

aye I am aware of it, the most common animal to use this method are slugs and snails, its true that jawless leeches use hypodermic insemination, though most jawed examples reproduce the old fashioned way with spermaphores. leeches are weird though, as they are hermaphrodites, so they mature as males before females, then you have the fission and budding potential of asexual reproduction. All in all they are one of the more fascinating breeds of annelids. Personally i find them fascinating, so if my little ramblings have induced your attention to the subject i find this lewd lemon a success.

…Congratulations, you managed to send me off on a wiki walking expedition into invertebrate biology. I don’t know how you should feel about that, but for myself I’m mostly just amused.
On a related note, you should really look up traumatic insemination. Apparently some invertebrates (including some leeches) reproduce by the male stabbing the female and directly injecting his sperm into the hemolymph (bug blood) in her abdominal cavity, and some of them seem to have trouble identifying targets so they’ll shank males or other species instead. It’s a fun bit of biological fuckery and something you could have fun with in the future.
