Tried twinkies when I was in the US in 2009. It was a cheep creme cake that tasted of baking soda and artifice, the likes of which vanished from Australian shelves while I was a kid when we all realised they sucked.

Well that’s well then. I actually liked Wonder Bread. But, living in Germany now it may as well have died (for me!), anyway.

The original Hostess company folded sometime in 2013, yeah, but their brands have been bought off and resurrected through capitalist voodoo by various corporate entities, so Wonder Bread is indeed still a thang.

Is Wonder Bread still a thang? I thought Hostas went titsup a few years ago now?

Maybe try a more rustic bread, rather than factory garbage.  
Find a local bakery and get something more wheaty or oaty.

It’s also probably the preservatives.

There is actually some science to this.  
Herbivores have much a more refined sense of taste than omnivores like us.
