One thing I’ve always wondered: If the genders were reversed, and we had little girl Spike (Barbara, Spines, whatever) crushing on the adult Elusive (I’ve always like that name for male!Rarity), would people still ship it as vehemently as they do?

I really want to see Spike get hit with a huge aging spell that brings him to his late teenage years. He goes off to live with Dragons for a few months on an expedition to learn more about his heritage only to fall in love with a dragon who loves him the same. Then when he returns to Equestria, Rarity realizes that he lost all interest in her when Rarity actually gained interest in him. I would be such a delicious role reversal.

wow Spike’s taken this whole childhood crush thing way to seriously.
How come? What has he done that goes “too far”? Cause I just see him feeling depressed and doing nothing else. Also, if you want to believe its just a childhood crush, that’s you, but that’s never been stated in the series. It may be, but it could also very easily be much deeper than that. Your headcanon =/= canon. For what concerns this picture at least, the fact that he’s still feeling depressed about it means it wasn’t just a childhood crush, so you trying to pass it as such is obviously not objective at all.

What evidence do you have that he’s actually doing anything other than feeling sad at never having expressed his feelings? This isn’t something you can just switch off. If he truly loved her from the bottom of his heart then its entirely possible that even though he feels good for her, it still hurts him.  
Seriously, if this was anyone else, you know you wouldn’t be trying to downplay the fact that the character in question still feels sad about losing his chance.  
in fact, I’m pretty sure what Spike feels for Rarity is infatuation not love.
You can feel “pretty sure” about anything you want. It doesn’t make it a fact.

Not exactly stalking when she’s inviting him to babysit (Checked the source). And even without that, there’s no context to say he’s following her or stalking her. It could just as easily be running into them on the street. While not the best thing, people are allowed to feel sad over what might have been. It doesn’t mean he isn’t happy for Rarity or friendly with Fancy, he just can’t help but wish it was him.

Our feelings have no “off” switch. You just don’t stop feeling things just because it is no longer convenient. In the series and in this image, Spike has done nothing “stalkersish” or “creepy.” He’s dealt with Rarity’s other crushes quite well, and here he’s simply shown as having a hard time dealing with his feelings. That’s doesn’t make him a creep… it makes him human (and the fact that they’re all portrayed as animals does not change the fact that they are human at heart, the only place it matters.)
