@Ridley Wolf
They’re not as cute as tarantulas, but I’ve seen videos of huntsmans running around like idiots, which gets me every time xD .

For anybody who needs a reference, think of a relatively harmless but very large spider that somebody gave a METRIC TON of coffee to.

Honestly, the Huntsman Spider isn’t bad at all. But I don’t agree with the thing Ridley Wolf posted either. I don’t think they’re cute or fuzzy. I still get creeped out by them. The danger with Huntsmans is no greater than you tripping over, which you may do after backing up when you see one. That being said, we do have some of the most dangerous spiders in the world here in Australia. Namely, the Redback and the Sydney Funnel Web, which are both in the top 10 list of the most dangerous spiders. There however, is a spider, which at a glance can look similar to a Huntsman which is dangerous to humans, and that is the Wolf Spider. While it’s not as bad as some of the aforementioned species, the Wolf Spider still has a rather painful bite, with irritation and minor symptoms, such as nausea and rashes which can go on for weeks or months, depending on the tolerance of the victim. I personally have no problem with spiders, so long as they’re outside the house. It’s only if they move inside that I pull out the bug spray.

@Ebalosus given how dangerous Australian spiders can be (I’ve seen a Huntsman up close and personal)

Hey, I’m all for learning, I’m glad we’re learning here. :) Stay a while and listen!

Ok, you guys have me. I’ll concede that my comment was made in ignorance, as when I lived in Australia, the idea of having a pet spider was considered pretty shocking to everyone but the most crazy/brave people; and given how dangerous Australian spiders can be (I’ve seen a Huntsman up close and personal), I assumed that you’d naturally de-fang a pet spider in order to avoid death-by-pet.

@Joseph Raszagal
I was actually referring to the other comment you made about animals being put down before the end of their life but if it is going nowhere, I respectfully withdraw the question. I apologize if it came across as a personal attack. That was not my intention at all.
I offer a brohoof as a sign of peace.

De-clawing cats and de-fanging spiders has nothing to do with meat-eating. Nothing.

And obviously, no, I don’t want to get into that argument. Neither will I be disclosing my eating habits.

This will go nowhere.

There’s no such standard practice as de-fanging your tarantula. Google it, you’ll get a few posts that get flamed by everyone.

I’m just not particularly fond of de-anythinging when it comes to pets. Sure, it’s just a spider, but it needs those.

Although I will admit, de-clawing a cat is probably worse by roughly 1,000%

Not if the handler is immune. (To be honest, I’ve never heard of a venomous pet handler being immune after countless bites from their pets except for a character on a cop show. :T )
