He then says this line which in context means basically this (from no fear Shakespeare):
eople who can restrain their passions and stay virgins forever are holy. But although a virgin priestess might be rewarded in heaven, a married woman is happier on Earth. A married woman is like a rose who is picked and made into a beautiful perfume, while a priestess just withers away on the stem.
So basically he’s saying if she doesn’t marry Demetrius her only other options are being dead or being a nun. He cautions that being a nun may allow her to keep her virtue but her life will be all the more miserable (and implied useless on the earth.)
This eludes me. What is he talking about?
