yes I know this is old as hell but still. changelings.
 
There are points where I agree with you and points where I dont. which is totaly fine. its all cannon. even with current episodes. that I…dont particularity care for. Threw my years of roleplay I go far indepth with it to make thins make sence.
 
 
You say they are ponys with chitinious skin. I kinda agree. but lets go further. Not every changeling is the same. some are flying others are crawling on the walls some are standing and using magic. If they are anything like ponys then lets say there are Five groups of changelings. The earth pony ones. still having abilitys natural to a changeling (IE shape shifting or any sort of hive talent) they are stronger and are able to do the heavy lifting of the hive.But have no magic via horn what so ever. Ones like the pegauses. lighter. but fast and able to move with extreme persuasion. But just like the pervious cant do magic via horn. then the third. Magic using ones like the unicorn. lighter. little bit smarter. but not as fast or strong as the previous counterparts. the fourth one is to explain when you do see a changeling fly and use magic or is strong with magic. a sort of noble class. where they have two some times all three traits. but with one dommenent trait taking the lead. then there is the queen.
 
As birthing goes. its kinda out of the window for a group of shapeshifters. egg laying. mamal style brith ect.
 
but as rasing the young go. I say with nymphs they have to teeth for there fangs to grow out right, they need a mix of emotion and solid food to help grow a digestion system as well as get used to some sort of solid food for blending in.
 
I have my own view point on the whole “Evil” thing. I see it more as a dine and dash. but I wont bore you with that
 
 
Then to exclude the whole hive mind. is that during the canterlot fight you see way to much emotion in the faces of them. Smiling. Anger. Content. or just putting on a brave face fallowed by pain.Something most artists never bother to work with when doing things like hive mind.

Theoretically not, unless changeling magic works differently and such a form, while powerful, could fragile as hell without some kind of hive-based help.

They are adorbs. Plus the thought of changeling x pony couples with kids is too cute to pass up. Anything to have them more as a race instead of a single-minded thing like Uruk-kai.
 
Who wouldn’t want a softly glowy preggy changeling to snuggle with? Plus acts as convenient nightlight and super easy to check on foal health.

so really, if twilight can use magic to change the species of multiple ponies simultaneously, then surely queen chrysalis using magic to alter her figure isn’t nearly as much of a stretch as you’re making it out to be

No, up until now we were talking about live young. I don’t believe they lay eggs period. Again, they’re ponies with chitinous skin and bug wings and eyes. Their bodies are not at all built for laying eggs.
 
Unless you mean she grows a big eggsac-abdomen thingie like this out of nowhere. Which again is a massive assumption based on nothing but “well they look kinda like bugs”.

Have you considered her entering egg-laying mode might not require a magical transformation, but a biological one she needs her true form to activate?

From the conversation going on in the comments, I’m one on the side of the fence of those who prefer changelings capable of having their own children instead of Chrysalis being the mother of all changelings.
 
I mean, not once in the show or comics does she ever refer or imply them to be as such, and looking at her design, she looks WAY too thin to be making all these little buggers (though the idea of it being revealed to be an immobile fat ant-like queen beneath a disguise would be a hilarious moment) and if she was, wouldn’t then be in a perpetual state of laying eggs like an ant or tick queen, unable to go on conquests?

Well, I guess in light of all the other magical stuff in Equestria… yes, it would still be at least a little bit crazy. Especially since the only point of it would be for “mommy chryssy”, which as much as I like it… I prefer changelings to reproduce no differently than ponies.
