Question is, what happened to Spike’s parents? Lauren isn’t stupid to say that they “abandoned him,” “got left on someone’s doorstep for no reason,” or “died…”
Could be possible that the fans WANTED them dead. Imagine one of them say: “Hey Lauren, can u kill Spike’s parents, plz? I think it’d be cuter if he got “adopted” by Celestia instead.”
If it’s consistently flooded it can’t be the tides. Maybe melting the polar caps…
