It’s important because it devalues the “Princess” title and throws a monkey wrench into the established yin-yang alicorn dynamic.

You seem to be under the impression that a change can only be “big” if it’s referenced in a lot of other episodes. When I say a change is big, I mean it’s a significant, important alteration to the underlying canon if the show. If Applejack started wearing her mane down, that’d be a fairly trivial change, even if it affected every episode from that point forwards. If a human character were added to Equestria, that’d be pretty significant even if he were never mentioned again.

How are all those things so big? Most of those things haven’t had much impact on other episodes. We’ve only seen the Crystal empire, and Cadance like what? 3 times? Lyra’s appeared in the show more then those things have.
 
My point still stands, honestly, I don’t think things are that bad personally. You’re letting only a few things you don’t like taint your entire opinion about the show, and ignoring all of the “non-toy” moments apparently.  
For every toy-etic episode, or moment in the show I see, I can think of like 10 other non-toy moments in it. There’s no Babs Seed toy, or “Power Ponies” toy-line yet, so you can’t say those were toy tie-ins forced by “evil” Hasbro.
 
As I said, I’ve seen more toy tie-ins in TMNT honestly. (But I still like TMNT.)

The wife-toss jokes don’t justify making Cadence an alicorn for no reason.
 
Whether they mostly give the team leeway is irrelevant, because they’re forcing them to shoehorn in some pretty big things. I’d rather have them force in a bunch of little things that don’t disrupt the flow of the show than a few big things that royally (no pun intended) fuck with established canon. I also don’t doubt that the staff are doing their best with what they’re given, but you can only polish a turd so much, and even then it’s still a turd.
 
By the way, “it could be worse” is one if the shittiest arguments in existence. Of course it could be worse. Literally everything could be worse. That doesn’t mean it’s not bad right now.

Well, if Cadance remained a unicorn, we wouldn’t have the “fastball special/wife throwing” joke would we? :P
 
So, you’re saying those 3 brief things, (and the “Rainbow Power thing being the only major “toy-etic” thing this year/season) and 2 easily-ignorable AU movies out of say over 40 episodes is “alot of toy-etic” stuff?  
Yeesh, you’d freak out if you watched the original, or new TMNT shows. (Which both have quite a few toy-etic characters.)
 
They could be forcing much more into the show, or much more out of it. Or putting more mandates/requirements/limitations on the show. Have you seen the limitations that go into the making of other shows/comics/ect.? (Heck, in the official Sonic comic, Sega wouldn’t allow Archie Comics to use characters like Omega, or Cream the Rabbit for years, until recently.)  
They could’ve instead force the writers to do nothing, but “stereotypical girly sleepover” plots, and such, but they aren’t.  
Things could be MUCH worse.
 
From what I’ve heard from the show makers, and IDW comic makers, Hasbro actually gives them ALOT more freedom then you guys think with the series. Be thankful the only “executive meddling” we’ve had on the show is a few minor changes, and only a few toy-centric episodes moments.
 
Also, at least the writers/makers of the show TRY to make the toy tie-ins entertaining, and have purpose, like say “Canterlot Wedding” was surprisingly more adventurous then fans originally thought it would be. (And before you rant about how “toy-etic” that episode was, answer me this… Where are all the Changeling toys?)
 
If the worst things they’re putting in is just a few brief things like that, then honestly, the show hasn’t had it as bad as other “toy-comercial” or “licensed” shows, as I said. You should read up on TVTropes about much worse “execute-meddling” on other TV shows, comics, games, and movies.  
Like WB forcing them to put Elmyra Duff (from Tiny Toons) in “Pinky & the Brain” which was a character many fans hated.

Well, what about making Cadence an alicorn? She wasn’t originally, so it’s obviously not for story reasons. Or what about Equestria Girls? That was pretty blatantly to cash in on the “Monster High” bandwagon. Oh, and there’s the whole Rainbow Power/Rocks thing they seem to be peddling now, which is clearly just to get kids to buy “Rainbowified” versions of the toys they already have.

Nobody said the show hadn’t always been a toy commercial, and nobody said they shouldn’t try to sell toys. “Nobody bitches about the hot air balloon, train, and such always being shown” because they actually fit in to the setting, tone, and established lore of the show. The show has always been a toy commercial, but it used to be SUBTLE, and didn’t let peddling new toysets get in the way of good storytelling.
 
And Equestria doesn’t need another figurehead. The “Princess” title used to hold weight; the only ones to hold that title were a pair of yin-yang demigods who kept harmony together. With Cadence and now Twilicorn, there’s runaway princess inflation; if Twilight is a princess, but doesn’t even do anything, the title is worthless.

Uh, Kwark has a point. The show was great, and Hasbro had to go and force the writers to shoehorn in a bunch of toybait that doesn’t fit in at all, reducing the show to G3 levels of gimmicky bullshit and squandering its potential, and that loss of potential makes me upset.

Indeed, in fact she still manages the library, and it seems like she has no political/administrative power in Equestria whatsoever, or does anything “princessy” honestly now. Soooo it’s very ironic people were so worried about the status-quo’ changing. In fact, honestly personally, I wouldn’t mind a new ep’ with some regard for her new status, besides “Twilight Time.”

I still can’t see much difference between wingy Twilight, and non-wingy Twilight honestly this season personally.
