Long rant incoming.

Okay for one if we are going by first impressions me and a lot of other people thought Rarity was a bitch when we first saw her and that she would be the least popular character but clearly that didn’t happen because over time we got to learn more about her and like her character and then we have a gilda a character I absolutely despised from the beginning but after her latest appearance I like her as a character a lot more than I used to and if you need to be immediately impressed to like something then you’re just shallow.

Yes he is a blank slate since we know nothing about him other than he is a member of the royal guard and is a nice guy which by the way does not make him a bad character if being nice made you a bad character then fluttershy would be the most hated character in the show as well as the fact shining armor is liked but he was just half assly thrown into the show and had little personality besides being a characters brother but look at him now.

Idealization? Can you not read? Most of the people are neutral to his character and those who do like him in this thread have all mentioned we would like to see some development and improvement to his character so you are just pulling stuff out of your ass.

The idea he has to have an exaggerated quirk to be liked makes no sense there are plenty of well liked characters in media who have no quirks just look at applejack she’s the straight man of the group with no over exaggerated quirks but she is still a liked character.

How does he hurt Twi’s image? By having a crush on her in the movie? A crush does not a bad character make and besides Twi has to be with pony flash since she won’t stay in the human world and it would just be weird she would have to start the relationship over from scratch leaving the writers with a chance to write him properly this time though I still think none of the main characters should be romantically involved on the show I’m just providing a hypothetical.
So to sum it up we do want to see more flash he’s not idealized like you say he has potential and can be improved and still be liked.
