Eh. He had interesting thoughts and made pretty good points but his drunken raving lunatic schtick got pretty tired after a while.
 
I’m not gonna sit here and watch him ramble about nothing for almost two hours to try to find out his point this time. Anyone want to summarize if they’ve seen it, or is it just the old incoherent rambling without any point at all?

If you won’t be happy unless it’s epic like Japanese games and Anime, then yes, get out now because that’s not what the show is. Otherwise you’re asking questions that no one can answer but yourself, because everyone’s tastes are different. Most people are saying season 5 is off to an excellent start, but there’s others who say it’s awful, and some who say it’s just OK with a few high points.

I don’t know what drew me to him exactly but I agreed with a lot of the ideas he had and I even started listening to his podcasts with the other analysts and he always seemed to be the one they listened to the most.
 
His schtick (at least I hope it was a schtick) was that he is a drunk who hates everybody and he’s kinda pathetic but that’s what made it funny.

Why’s this guy important in anyway? He didn’t start till the season 3 finale, so I don’t see how he could have made a big impact in the analysis community.
 
He’s not one of those guys who think’s he’s important but really just goes full Trixie, is he?

I remember when Alex-S was done making pony music, he just said “Nah, I’m done. Sorry.” It was the fans that got made at him that I had a problem with, because those fans didn’t want him to leave and that’s what’s disappointing.
 
When Tommy left he blamed the fandom. He couldn’t just leave peaceful. That’s what a lot of people got mad about.

Yeah, I don’t even see why they can call themselves the horseshoe crew when none of them are apart of the fandom. I agree pandering is stupid and the idea of analyzing MLP is stilly, but it seems like he was out to turn good one away from the fandom all together in stead of trying to make it better. Seeing they all left it feels that way anyways.

Yeah, I suppose the point could be made that it wasn’t a particularly good joke, for anyone but him at least. Digi, Tommy, et. al. seem to have not realized that by following him, they became the punchline.

Anyone that makes a big deal about leaving is actually really upset that they have to leave and are hoping enough people beg them to stay to make them feel important. People who /really/ want to leave just leave. Dramatic flounces like this have been a thing since the internet first existed, and it’s always meant the same thing. “Look at me. Please pay attention and beg me to stay”.
 
That said, he did improve the analyst community. Anything that results in fewer analysts improves the community. Even virtual self-immolation.

His schtick is a joke, but he’s had a very real influence on those around him. Jesse may see it as a positive because he’s a sick, twisted individual that seems to legitimately hate people, but now that he’s passed that mentality onto the rest of the “Horseshoe Crew” (Gibbontake, Digi, Tommy, TBBAP) all of them have become worse for it in the long run.
 
Oh sure at first it seemed like a good thing, Gibbon’s video quality skyrocketed after he joined, and for the first half of S4 Digi legitimately seemed like he was having a good time doing what he was doing in his reviews. But look at how every single one of the Crew is now: Gibbon has effectively gone dormant, Digi has left to go back to go do anime (by far the least affected IMO, though I attribute that to his crazy work ethic), Tommy essentially went off the deep end recently after people actually used the thing he implemented into his videos, that being a “skip here to skip the negative parts of the episode” button in his videos (a rather stupid idea if you ask me, if it bothers you that people would want to skip the bad stuff why would you pander to them by putting in that button?), and TBBAP doesn’t even do the small amounts of animation that they were putting into their videos last season anymore.
 
All of these people used to do great work in their videos, and while it seemed at first that Jesse’s influence caused all of them to get better at what they were doing, it’s become abundantly clear that his mentality of “screw your audience, do what you want to do for you and nobody else” WILL break you down unless you have either a crazy work ethic or a very specific mentality like Jesse does.

(It was less than 5 minutes worth, I skipped around to find the point. Not sure I did.)
 
Personally, All I got from it is the typical;  
“LOL I TROLLZ YOU, THERE BY PROVING MYSELF RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE WRONG! NOW I HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW RIGHT I AM WITH A LONG WINDED VIDEO ABOUT QUITTING THE FANDUMB!”
 
That, and I naturally dislike anyone who makes a big deal about quitting the fandom.
 
If you don’t like your community any more, find a new one or change it.  
Otherwise, there is such a thing as leaving quietly and gracefully.

Also on a semi-related note, an important part of why people began complaining about the likes of Digi, Tommy, and others that have been a part of the “analysis” community is not that they were giving negative feedback towards the show, even if that’s what they were saying to them. No, I find that what they were really describing is that they had lost their passion for talking about the show, they had lost their drive and it showed in the tone of their voice and the thoughts that they gave.
 
Perhaps they had simply burned out from doing it for 2+ seasons, maybe they hadn’t thought they would get as big as they did and the stress just got to them, maybe Jesse really is a pox on those he comes into contact with and made them hate their own fanbase. (my bet is on a mix of all 3) Whatever the case is, people could tell that they had lost their joy analyzing and reviewing MLP, even if they didn’t or couldn’t fully contextualize it, and nothing is worse than watching someone you like do something that they don’t want to do.
