Don’t worry man, trigger warnings do have validity: blood, physical violence and even seizure warnings for example are in fairly common, use relative to warnings for, say, insects and creepy crawlies. The concept is entirely legitimate. But like you suggested, the ‘need’ for warnings can and are abused.

Criticisms regarding the lack of reasonable trigger warnings ought to be respected, but there is a point where the lack of warning is less of an issue than the lack of thicker skin.

I guess, but I’d rather be one of the 999 nice people than the one guy who makes fun of people like this, y’know? Again, that’s just me, though. I understand this image isn’t teasing anyone in particular and is just kind of making fun of the concept itself, but I think TWs have some validity, even if they’re sometimes misused.

The big problem with trigger warnings is that not everyone is going to care or respect it. In fact, some people are wired to enjoy seeing others get angry or upset. So not only will those folks not use trigger warnings, they’ll deliberately try to trigger others. Schadenfreude!

So, one cannot expect random strangers to care about what you personally think. 999 people might be respecful, but it would only take one to trigger someone. TWs aren’t an effective coping mechanism.

I don’t really think the concept of trigger warnings is inherently ridiculous. If you know you’re posting something that might frighten, upset, or bring up unpleasant memories in someone, providing a fair warning seems like a nice thing to do.
That’s just me though.

If someone does a Bon Bon edit of this reaction my life will be complete, expecially if animated like this.
