“huh, so if no one complained that they don’t like something for any reason, good or bad, the artist would only hear from those who liked their stuff, and then keep making the stuff that the quiet person does not like.”
If they don’t get feedback about the bad, how can they improve?
huh, so if no one complained that they don’t like something for any reason, good or bad, the artist would only hear from those who liked their stuff, and then keep making the stuff that the quiet person does not like.
I fail to see how this scenario is bad.
I never read the past sins fiction, to be honest I read very few fics at all.
But I’m not offended by Nyx, or Ticket, or any other OC’s.
There are a few things from Furafinity that don’t offend me, quite a few things that turn me off, like the diaper fetishes… or the Fluffy Pone abuse, or any other number of things I don’t like…
But do I seek out things I don’t like and tell everyone including the artists discussion board how much I don’t like their stuff?
Nope. I usually keep my opinions to my self, unless I have something positive to say, I usually try not bother people.
But the thing is, Wilhelm, is that I’ve seen hate on things that are fictional that just get more fans, because the attention spreads to more places and thus more people who may or may not like it.
If you liked it, then I’m happy for you. You found a story and enjoyed it enough to follow through to the end. Please stop reading now.
If you hated it, maybe the characters seemed hollow to you, the soryline too predictable, it’s conflicts too childish and easily resolved. Maybe you feel an irrational hatred towards it’s popularity, and maybe you;re not the type that can just ignore and forget. Consider the following;
Imagine the room for growth we still have in our fandom. Consider what you think are “good” fanfics, outside of our fandom. chances are, they’ll be made by fantoms a lot older that our own.
What we are still going through is a stage of cultural evolution; maybe even now, theres an author out there still mulling over a great idea, finishing up on a chapter he has yet to publish, or maybe a fanfic is already out there, just waiting for the right attention.
And, as in any type of evolution, what happens to the older, obsolete strains? The frayed edges of that great tapestry?
They are ignored, overwritten, in some cases removed completely, and eventually… forgotten.
If we ignore the stuff we don’t like, that leaves only the people saying that it’s good, which makes people think that there is an demand for it, so they make more and more of it, then once it passes a certain point no amount of people pointing out the flaws will work, because the person has the weight of numbers of their side.
