My cat still does this at 14 years old. If you have a book or newspaper open, he has to lay down on it. XD And yes, it’s still adorable. :3 And this image is a beautiful depiction of that. I literally “Dawww’ed” when I saw it. :3

Even if you believe that a mod (and the owner of the ‘booru) would lie to you about such a thing, it’s really easy to search for ‘featured image, spike’ and pull up the exact same list of images. And for the record, Sweetie Belle has been in only 3 featured images, all of them basically “everypony” drawings of dozens of characters, and Apple Bloom has been in just 4 (the same 3 as SB, plus one comic where she was a minor player), so even compared to the underrepresented Spike, they’re more underrepresented.
Here’s a better way to approach the lack of Spike features: First, get a collection of awesome/cute/funny Spike pics that are at least as good as the top 20% of featured images so far (and keep track of any new ones that get uploaded). Then, every time it’s about time for the mods to pick a new featured image (usually every 3 days, so 2.5 days from the time of this comment), post 1 to 3 of those images in this forum thread using the format >>#####t (the t at the end is important). There’s no guarantee that they’ll be chosen, but that’s the best way to bring potential feature-worthy images to the attention of the mods who make that decision. And definitely don’t whine about the lack of Spike in featured images either in that thread or in the comments of a featured image; that’s a sure way to get people annoyed and unsympathetic.
Yes, saying to find images as good as the top 20 of previous featured images seems unfair, but (1) a fair number of featured images are chosen for topicality, and so while good, aren’t as good as images chosen on merit alone; (2) try as you might to be fair, you’re going to be biased towards Spike pics and rate them more highly than the general population; and (3) the better a picture is, the more likely it’ll stand out to the mods deciding what to feature next.%
