Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

@Thegreatmewtwo
Yeah, it was just too bad that it was one of the only games really to even try to be good at the time when the alternatives were, what, Night Trap and the like?

Oh, I forgot to mention! I saved some codes for this one! Go to the soundtrack screen.
For the SNES version, to unlock Sunset Shimmer mode early, it’s L+A__Y+R+Select__(Down+X). I think the Genesis version was Left+A__Y+C+Down__(X+Z),

In addition, everyone knows that the CD version was the way to go, what with that digital music, those voice samples, and beautiful SVGA-compatible rendering.

Hey, 256-color VGA graphics and AdLib/Soundblaster sound and music was pushing it back then. I should know. I wanted a Soundblaster sound card as a child playing “Commander Keen.”

I managed to get EG1 running on DOSBox recently…not impressed, even by the standards of the time.

I liked that Mode-7 bonus level in the SNES version. They replaced it with a different one in the Sega version. People still debate which one was more fun.

Meh, blast processing is cool and all, but Hasbro Interactive’s decision to go console-exclusive when they made Rainbow Rocks for SNES and Genesis was a poor one…though I did like how Daniel Ingram’s musical numbers sounded in FM synth on the Genesis’s YM2612 sound chip, and the inclusion of digitized vocals in the SNES version was truly amazing for a 16-bit music simulator from late 1994…truly groundbreaking for its time.

But…how can you all forget about the original Equestria Girls music/action game released in mid-1993, and even before THAT the original MLP:FiM game from back in 1991, both exclusively made for the Amiga? Sure, Equestria Girls got a DOS port in November of ‘93 but the audio quality was just sub-par…it’s like they didn’t even care.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

For a game based around music, even if the minigames were bad and piss-easy, they did manage to push the hardware to it’s limits! Luckily, the soundtest option is available right at the start so you can listen to the whole masterful soundtrack without having to actually play the game.
