Upon Starry Moonlight extracting what she needed from Sleepaway, she managed to have her four foals in peace, Cotton Canvas being one of them. However, her mother wasn’t too keen on her pegasus children - although they were useful, they weren’t bat ponies, and colourful bat ponies were the only children she wanted. With that, Cotton Canvas and her brother Lucid Wing were thrust into the world the moment they reached an age that they could take care of themselves. The two young ponies found themselves in the Everfree forest, where they were taken care of by an older zebra who seemed to know his way around the world. He taught Lucid how to explore the world through his dreams, but Cotton could never find something she was good at. Whatever she did, it just seemed like she wasn’t going anywhere. She was just thinking to herself that it was hopeless, until the white streaks in her mane and tail began to glow and shine. Suddenly, it occurred to her she was surrounded by colour. So much of it. It, too, seemed to be glowing with some sort of aura. She grabbed a wingful of flowers, using her wings to paint along the rocks with their colours. By the time she was done, she had splatters of “paint” on her wingtips and her hooves, and the white of her mane and tail had summoned a rainbow in their place. When she would focus and move, her mane would leave a glowing rainbow trail, lighting up the night before it faded into non-existence. Her cutie mark, in a flash, appeared on her flank, signalling she was meant to create those colours. Put on a show. Since then, she’s been a performer at heart, leaving rainbows in her wake.
