Interestingly, Lani Minella Wendy Koopa’s modern game voice was the original SA2 voice for Rouge the bat.

You have a point. She was probably just like “What the heck?” But sense her voice actress isn’t that good, (not as good as Leslie Swan who voiced her in SM64) it was hard to tell her emotions.
(Probably another reason Mario games no longer have full voice acting.)

I think Bowser’s Melee trophy mentioned he has “7 children,” but I have no clue if that was in the original Japanese version.

And you know how people always point to the “I’m your MAMA?!” line from Peach in Super Mario Sunshine as an indicator that she’s kind of an idiot in the main series? I always got the impression that Peach was actually thinking, “Why would you even THINK that that’s true?” when she said that.
I think that’s just a headcanon, as they never tell you in the games. But as I said, the canon can be whatever you want when it comes to Mario.

Huh, I’ll have to look that up. Kinda odd they would just forget about them and retcon it so Bowser only has one kid.
I remember hearing something about her dying and the only reason he kidnaps Peach is for her to be a mother figure to Bowser Jr.
They weren’t named at that point, but he still regarded them as such.
I always assumed the Koopas, and such liked barren & dark places. Considering in “New SMB U” they transform Princess Peach’s kingdom into a “Dark Land”-style dystopia.
Or something very tragic could’ve happened? Could be part of the reason why he does what he does? Besides his kingdom looks barren and dark.

Maybe there was a “Queen Koopa,” but she must’ve left Bowser, or maybe he ate her, or something.

Not so much “retconned,” as never really regarded it. In fact, I hear Miyamoto doesn’t even consider Mario a “plumber.” He prefers to leave the Mario games backstoryless so the fans/players can come up with their own backstories, and headcanons.

They did? I heard they weren’t regarded as Bowser’s children at all in Japan. In fact, they didn’t even have names in Japan, until they adapted the ones from the USA version of SMB3 into SMW.
Actually, as I remember, even the Japaneese manual for Mario 3 had them as his children, he refers to them as his sons and Morton and Roy call him father
Yeah, heard Miyamoto retconned it…though it can be interpreted as them being adopted while Jr being his legitimate son. Thats what I choose to believe if Nintendo wont expand on it.
I don’t know, I kinda liked his old/Japanese name “King Koopa” better then Bowser. Maybe that’s just from nostalgia from watching the “Super Show” as a ‘90s kid.
Apparently, NOA also invented that “orgin” of the Koopalings being Bowser’s children, which I did like. (Though, it seems ignored now.)
