You can also try using the . on the numerical side of your keyboard. No shift key needed. If you still feel the need for a separate tag or for something to change you’re welcome to propose something here or here.

one requires the shift key, the other does not. it’s marginally more difficult. (unless like me you have nerve damage in your already blocky and misshapen hands, then any deviation from the main thing is more difficult than it would be for someone who doesn’t have nerve damage)

as I didn’t even know that thread existed until it was pointed out.

Which is why I linked it. You’d be better off dropping your two cents there since that’s what the thread’s for.
Yeah, maybe “adventure in the comments” is kind of a smartass tag

It’s also misapplied. See, way back when, shortly after the Great Exodus, we didn’t have forums. So, people rp’d and would occasionally act silly in the comments. Hence the tag was made. Hence why it has “adventure” in it. Because it was meant for threads that had actual adventure or (weird) things happening in it. Not for ones that just had lots of comments. I don’t even know why we would need a tag for pics with lots of comments.
I think that could be fixed just by having a hard rule on exactly how many upvotes or faves a picture has to have before it can be tagged as such.

That is the unwritten rule for upvotes, yes. I thought it was 250 but I’ve seen people claim 200. No idea about faves. Personally, I don’t bother much with those.

Here’s my two cents.

  1. Having upvotes galore as an actual tag makes things a lot simpler. I think pretty much every regular user of this site has seen it by now and knows what it is and how it works. You can also watch it, as you mentioned above. I never would have figured out the syntax search on my own had that thread not been linked to me, as I didn’t even know that thread existed until it was pointed out.

  2. Syntax searching in general is more complicated than just having the occasional idiosyncratic tag. In addition to score.gt:XXX I saw a suggestion to turn “adventure in the comments” to comment_count.gt:XXX. That might not be a lot right now, but if we start turning too many tags into syntax searches it can easily start to become confusing and difficult to remember all those different syntax searches. I just don’t want the admins to get carried away with it. Yeah, maybe “adventure in the comments” is kind of a smartass tag but I still think remembering “lots of comments” or something along those lines would be simpler than memorizing another syntax search.

    If the issue is that people think upvotes galore and wall of faves is too subjective I think that could be fixed just by having a hard rule on exactly how many upvotes or faves a picture has to have before it can be tagged as such. I myself never added the tag to anything before it reached 250, and from what I usually saw I believe most people were the same way. 250 or 300 seems like a good number to me.

@The Smiling Pony
The one advantage upvotes galore has is that as a tag it can be added to the watch list. So add to watch list, click watched, BLAM, no annoying typing involved. Also
applied to the wrong images

I don’t follow up on it but I think people are fairly consistent in adding it only on images that exceed, what was it again, 200/250 upvotes. The other two of course, you have a point.

Beyond that, I’unno.

@Mister Jack
How is it more complicated? Not only does it allow you to select the exact score you want to get results for, but the results will always be correct, rather than a tag that can be applied to the wrong images, removed from the right ones, or simply not applied at all.

@Mister Jack
Personally, I don’t see how typing “score.gt:[insertnumberofyourchoicehere]” is much different from typing “upvotes galore” since the end result is the same, but that’s me. Also, “Anyone capable of civil discussion is welcome to add his or her thoughts, two cents, list more tags for any of the categories, propose different solutions, or just discuss in general.”.

That system seems needlessly complicated to me. So instead of just being able to search for upvotes galore and getting pages of good images that everyone likes, I’m going to have to remember score.gt:250? I understand the desire to get rid of useless tags, but that one was pretty useful for me.

Unless this is some devious plot to give this pic a reason to have the “adventure in the comments” tag. Which I removed. Cause it doesn’t fit here. Which I suspect this is about.
