I’m not sure how Cadance’s parentage is relevant here, but yes, she’s working hard. Very hard. And it’s very distracting, thinking about Shining Armor as a mare with a big pregnant belly full of her foals. Thus the hardness. She’s debating on just chaining Shiny under the desk to handle it so she can concentrate on getting the spell working, but knows she’d probably just taunt him about the results and end up rutting him in the lab more than working.

My headcanon for this pic: sometime after this scene, said captain caught Shining Armor with something ‘gay’ and it turns out he’s one of those extreme homophobes. So Shiny has two weeks to find a girlfriend ‘to fuck the queer out of him’ or the captain will do his best to drum him out of the guard.
 
So he’s moping by the pond or whatever when Cadance interrupts and pokes him until he spills his guts. He explains that he’s not entirely homosexual… he finds mares attractive… but he’s so obsessed by dick that he’s afraid any girlfriend he had would get offended at his desires or just be grossed out, thus why he hasn’t looked.
 
Cadance asks him if that’s why he hasn’t asked her out and just giggles when he turns bright red. And redder when she tells him that the dick thing will most certainly not be a problem. He finally turns to look at her and ask what she means by that.
 
And Shiny finds out that those rumors about alicorns being dual-gendered are true. And how.
 
A few years later, when Shining Armor took his job, Cadance gave the old bugger a good look under her tail, by ‘accident’ just to rub it in.
 
After re-evaluating everything he ever knew, he’s publicly taken a quiet, secluded requirement… while living out his long-suppressed homosexual desires as shemale starlet ‘Private Cockhound’ who dances at various clubs in Lower Canterlot who cater to that sort of thing and usually takes home at least one eager not-too-picky(-or-just-that-drunk) stallion a night.
