Very high qualty marker pens. Among other things, you can use them to do different shades (e.g. a shade of pink for flesh, a slightly darker pink for shadows) and so on. I’ve seen them used in animation schools and art studios.

Well, ok, let’s go full Orson Welles:
A slow clap as in “A gradual building of applause, usually starting with one person clapping slowly, and ending with an enthusiastic standing ovation. Generally shows approval for an underdog in a come from behind victory or after losing with pride intact.” or a slow clap as in “a sarcastic type of applause that is used to heckle a speaker or performer.”
And… why? :P
Without going into too-deep late season spoilers, they are from the future of humanity and are there in the past to “observe” in part of their curiosity of the past (saying more would spoil). The ones that become important characters observe the main characters and actually get involved , even if seemingly in a small way, in the events of the show (eg appearing long enough to distract someone, or to give a piece of cryptic advice).
