People who use that term still see themselves as the hero. They are the person who does what others are too ‘weak’ to do. It’s because they are lucid enough to realize their behavior is wrong, but still deluded enough to justify it.
Indeed. They are IDIOTS, but they don’t view themselves as evil. They believe that what they are doing is right and just. That doesn’t MAKE them right, but their personal perception of themselves is the point I was making.
@LuminoZero
Actually, there are many people who do exactly that. They just excuse it by demonizing their favorite victims. Then it’s easy for them to convince themselves that they’re doing it “ironically” and not responsible for their own actions.
And once that happens, they’re emotionally committed to their self-righteously harmful actions, and it’s easy for them to convince themselves that their victims are the most evil thing imaginable for whatever nonsensical reason they can think of. For example, some of them think that it’s actually hypocritical to care about the treatment of a minority group while disagreeing with individuals in that group. If they start questioning that kind of hateful rhetoric, then they’ll have to start questioning their own actions, and it’s easier to stay in a mental “safe mode” of viewing themselves as righteous freedom fighters.
Yar! Tis it be me seein’ the princess and her nephew havin’ some pirate fun. Eye, ye must be carful though. Ya might be gettin’ into some trouble, Ms. Celestia. Tis I keepin’ an eye on that young one there.
There are people who deliberately go out of their way to do this. They’re called trolls, and depending on who you ask, they’re either very stupid or very intelligent. The kind of person that ‘troll’ is used to describe isn’t a phenomenon that originated from the internet, but the internet made it much easier to get away with being a troll without many meaningful repercussions, which led to more trolls appearing.
It is hilarious that people believe that there are people in the world who wake up every day and say.
“How can I be an evil bastard today?”
VERY few people see themselves as ‘evil’ or ‘wrong’. They may have different values or priorities than you, but they still believe they are doing the right thing.
That doesn’t MAKE them right, polite or not an asshole, but it is important to make this distinction.
Well this makes sense, Blueblood acts the way he does because he yearns for the life of the Sea, Rum, cantankerous and well endowed wenches, and good honest Pirating.
